Overview
Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (also known during testing in North America as "Wangan Midnight: Maxi Boost") is a street racing game developed by Polygon Magic and released by Namco for arcades (using Xbox-based Sega Chihiro hardware) on July 6, 2004.
The second game adaptation of the manga series Wangan Midnight, Maximum Tune uses a magnetic card system that allows players to keep track of their player data and vehicle stats. In addition to a Time Attack mode, the game features a Story mode that allows players to race against opponents from the manga to level-up and tune their vehicle.
In addition, the cabinet's twin-style two-player setup allows a second player to interrupt the other player's Story race (if they allow it) and challenge them to a head-to-head race, similar to fighting games.
Unlike Genki's entry in the series, Maximum Tune received numerous arcade sequels throughout the years.
