Dungeon Defenders 0

The formula for a tower-defence game has been refined and reshaped over the last few years. Both small indie and big-name developers have contributed significantly to the genre that it can be easily accessible, and yet infinitely complex. Dungeon Defenders is no exception to this rule, and it adds its own twist to the genre as well. Unlike most tower-defence games which involve manipulating an overworld maps, Dungeon Defenders bringing in action RPG elements to the table, creating an interesting...

Beat Hazard Review 0

Beat Hazard is a twin stick shooter that can also be played with a mouse and keyboard. This is a well known premise, and the game adds to this design by including a pretty versatile music and rhythm game to it. You play music from a variety of sources, and these affect how the enemies spawn and move around. A slow tempo song will cause a minimal amount of enemies to spawn, and their movement will be at a manageable pace. If a song decides to pick up in tempo, significantly more enemies will spaw...

Shadowgrounds Review 0

Shadowgrounds is Frozenbyte’s shoot-em-up that is advertised as Doom combined with Smash TV. The comparison is more or less correct, as the story and gameplay meet this criteria, but when it comes to the execution and how well this game holds up, Shadowgrounds does not necessarily meet the satisfaction these two games have. The story in Shadowgrounds is as simple as it gets. You are a mechanic working on a colony on one of Jupiter’s moons, and the power goes out. You go on to investigate, leading...

Demon's Souls Review 0

After spending twenty minutes in a dungeon, you consume the remaining leaves you have to restore the rest of your health before venturing forth. Keeping your shield up, you slowly walk forward trying to ensure you keep yourself alive. You turn a corner to find a squid-faced spell caster. He immediately stuns you, and then bites your face off, all in the span of ten seconds, leaving you dead, and all the progress you made in this dungeon disappear into the wind, and your left contemplating how ev...

A Big Step Back from the First Game 0

After beating Zombie Shooter 1, I decided to pop in Zombie Shooter 2 to see how Sigma Team improved their game over the next two years. The production budget seemed to be slightly higher at first look. The story tried to flesh itself out a bit, but it turns out to be nearly the same, but with the addition of some one-dimensional voice acting. The controls went from an eight directional shooter to 360 degree style controls, but the questionable camera that comes with it. As you turn your characte...

A Servicable Game of Cliches 0

When you first start the game your character background and backstory come in the form of paragraphs. These excerpts of story don’t provide much, and it also does not help that there are a significant amount of spelling errors and grammar issues, making me do double takes on what the game was actually trying to tell me. Basically you can play as two players, and they have to cliche story of a tough guy/girl with a rugged past, and it’s your job to find out how to stop the zombie infestation. The...

Bringing rogue-like Back 0

Bringing rogue-like style gameplay back to fruition, The Binding of Isaac brings this tried and true RPG formula to an accessible format. With the title referencing the popular biblical story, this game features dark humor, religious references, and familiar gameplay mechanics. The Binding of Isaac has much to live up to after the developer’s success with Super Meat Boy, and it’s very safe to say that they succeeded. The story is kept to a simple intro. You play as Isaac, a carefree kid living a ...

Truly Unlimited Freedom 0

The Saints Row franchise has always inspired to create an open-world sandbox that truly gives the player unlimited freedom. Saints Row: The Third could be the closest Volition has gotten to reaching this goal. Putting absurdity and mayhem as the selling point, Saints Row: The Third, while not a game without its flaws, should be praised for giving an satisfying experience to the player, filling them with laughs and glee until the end.The story is just what you’d expect if you played any game in t...

Sonic Generations Review 0

Sonic the Hedgehog as a character could not seem to get the universal acclaim it once had, with each iteration into the era of 3D bringing in more complaints ranging from control issues, gimmicky gameplay decisions, and cringeworthy storylines. With each year, the Sonic fan base’s numbers dwindled, with only those most loyal to the franchise remaining. These fans are rewarded for sticking it out this long, as Sonic Generations is arguably one of the best games in the series since the Dreamcast e...
