if the arsenal in doom 2016 felt like having a board full of queens, playing doom eternal feels like having one full of pebbles and bits of dried up chewed gum

i want to switch weapons because a different one would be more useful, not because my current one is useless.

@ares42: I dunno, all of that sounds like very basic "We don't just wanna do the same game again" changes.

they should have done the same thing again.

all of their changes dramatically reduce interesting decision making from combat. you have to play each moment exactly how the designer wants you to because there's a single dominant strategy for every situation and the game will punish the hell out of you for not using it.

people are saying this game is harder than doom 16. i think its more accurate to say that its way way way more inflexible.

What gamers don't seem to understand is that grudgingly buying a product isn't a boycott

If you don't like it, don't buy it. I'm not trying to be smugly dismissive here, it's advice I genuinely wish more people followed.

You say that you're worried the bad business practices such as loot crates will affect good games and then you'll be forced to deal with it. The better way to look at it is this: any game with such business practices is not a good game. So it will never be a problem for you.

Not many of them. Even if they turned out bad, backing them generally means a significant discount (for example, I wish I had backed Divinity Original Sin because then I could have had it on day 1 for only $20).

There were a few I regret. I backed Sattelite Reign, but then when it came out I realized "Oh wait, I've never liked syndicate. Whoops!"
There was also Chaos Reigns, which was a a game by X-Com creator Julian Gollop. I backed it hoping for something X-Com like but I guess I should've read up on it because its just not X-Com and its systems just did not interest me at all (card-based, etc)

I think he's better suited as a directly hands-on designer than as a manager or executive. But the laws of seniority and pay scaling kind of make that impossible.

Yeah, the worst thing you can do to Doom is overcomplicate it. This doesnt look like a bad game just a generic one. I feel like we already got our modern Doom sequel and that was Painkiller and that game still holds up. (Dont play Hell and Damnation or any of the bastardized expansions though)

I like Painkiller and Serious Sam, don't get me wrong, but they aren't much like Doom at all. Doom, Duke3D, Blood, Quake, etc. were all about the level design, whereas Pankiller and Sam are about locking you in a square room and having tons of guys spawn in. More like a modern Smash TV than Doom.
