Over the years playing games, I believe many of us find developers who we latch onto in terms of the games they make either as a whole or for a specific aspect. Below are the ones that I keep coming back to over and over. They make experiences that excite me, draw me in and keep me coming back for more whenever a new project is announced.
For me, Supergiant is two for two with Bastion and Transistor. Transistor was my 2014 Game of the Year and I have gone back and beaten the game several times, which I never do.The high level of quality in both story and visual design with tight combat mechanics leave me enamored with everything they have made thus far.
Not much needs to be said here. Kojima and his team are legendary for the Metal Gear Solid franchise and I love it. While gameplay hasn't always been the series' strongest aspect, the love it or hate it over the top story (which I adore) is why this developer is on my list.
Heavenly Sword is one of my favorite games on the PS3. The story of Nariko in her battle against King Bohan coupled with the three stance gameplay made me fall in love. Then came Enslaved: Odyssey to the West which had a fantastic and out there story with very likable characters in the forms of Monkey and Trip. The character-driven narratives with environments that I lose myself in are why they make this list.
