Oh this MANDATES save-scumming? It might be up my alley then! I wish I had the time to sit down with this or Phoenix Point or any of the other X-COMmy games.

Whoa whoa whoa, to clarify the game doesn't force you to save-scum but weirdly encourages it because of the lack of permadeath which forces you to reload an earlier save. Granted usually soldiers bleed out instead of outright dying but at this point it's easier just to save-scrum than deal with taking that solider out to treat the injuries in the Training Room and subbing in a rookie soldier.

Also recommended to create you own manual saves because the autosaves are too aggressive and can screw you over like it did for me.

I love the aesthetic of this game but there's no way I can play this game. There are way too many blinking lights like the scene where they talk to the Motherboard. They weren't kidding in the intro where it says this game may induce epilepsy.

Thanks for the last minute reference! I wrote that Tokyo Dark review last night around 10 PM EST.

Never even heard of this Merritt K controversy until today. Tried googling around and the worst thing I found was how she abused her position as editor and was mean to a queer coworker. I couldn't find any actual evidence of grooming.

Appreciate the mention on my Carrion review! That review was my first in a few months because I've been playing an embarrassingly amount of FE: Three Houses, currently on my fourth playthrough.

@yyninja: That's a really weird take! You want their opinions to have been more positive than they turned out to be based on a game that you don't know is good?

Um no, maybe I didn't express myself more clearly. I wanted to hear a critical structured discussion about the game and ended up listening to what sounded like everyone ranting for over an hour. I played TLOU part one so I have a basic understanding of some of the characters and plot.

I liked the format of the other spoilercasts, not simply because they were positive but because they were well structured like talking about best character, best music, best level etc.

@yyninja: celebratory of what?

I dont get it. Am i missing something? There are shit ton of last of us spoilercasts out there that are celebratory. And i mean most of them

I get it. You like this game a lot and cant hear criticism. .

So I actually didn't play TLOU2 yet and never plan to. I don't have time to listen to every spoilercast out there, I wanted to listen to this one because I'm a fan of the site and want to support what these guys are doing.

I didn't enjoy this spoilercast, I honestly fell asleep listening to it because it seemed like no one was really talking to each other and just wanted a soapbox to rant.

I'm surprised that this spoilercast was so... unstructured and negative. I think I prefer spoilercasts that are more celebratory, the recent FF7 Remake Spoilercast comes to mind.

Really excited seeing Jan try out this game. Trails is easily one of the more overlooked JRPG series out there. It's rich in text and lore, and it helps that the localization is amazing.

This year's GOTY deliberation was more yey than YAY for me.

I didn't like the format this year. There were several games that were too quickly dismissed under the guise of "we talked about it earlier so we don't want to discuss about them anymore". I'm surprised Slay the Spire, Sekiro and Fire Emblem didn't resonate strongly with anybody on the team.

While I respect the decision to include Ring Fit Adventure as part of the GOTY, let's be honest here, it isn't good from a game perspective, at best it would win best game that utilizes the Switch Controllers.

I did enjoy Alex's talk about Judgement and Ben's written notes on Disco Elysium, that rocked.

If possible, maybe just scrap the whole organizing a top 10 list and just debate and discuss a GOTY like GameSpot did. I think it's getting increasingly impossible to rank the 10 best games when there are more and more good games released every year.

Here's hoping that next year's deliberation will be better than this one.
