Rygar the Battle of Argus Review

Rygar the Battle of Argus is a port and based off a PlayStation 2 game named, Rygar the Legendary Adventure. You will be playing the part of Rygar newly crowned champion of Argus. While the celebrations are going on a dark presence shows up, and steals away the princess. It will be your job to fight your way through Argus to stop the Titans from accomplishing their mission. You will be given a weapon of great power called a diskarmor. With this weapon you'll be able to attack your enemies from afar as well as block thier attacks.

Graphically this game shows its 6 year age. It also goes to really show how far behind the Wii is in comparision  to other consoles when it comes to graphical intensity. The true undoing for this game, however, is the almost complete arbitrary camera angle changes. As you go through a level don't be surprised if the camera just changes on you. You'll spend several moments in the game were the enemy is out of the focus of the camera, but be sure that they'll continue to attack you from that location.

Music wise I feel like a watching some 70s B movie based on Roman and Greek mythology (I'm still waiting for the claymation to happen in this game, if that happens then this game will be complete). The sounds of the game is the clanging of metal as you throw your diskarmor around. The true problem is that almost every single time your character does something your Wii-mote is going to vibrate, and during certain sequences the sound of the vibration is going to outplay the rest of the game.

Control wise this game is really simple. You've got the nunchuck for direction. You have the A and B button as your two attacks, but don't be surprised if you find that there's really not that much variety to the attacks. You can also jump, and guard. The guarding though is almost pointless because you don't have a lock on mechanism is there might be a chance that you're guarding slightly to your right and the enemy attack will come through, or the attack will come through regardless of your guarding position.

This game feels like a cheap knock off of God of War. You're going to have the same kind of setting, but with worse graphics, and without the fun. This game has a very rinse and repeat formula to it. What I mean by that is that if you want to get far in the game all you're going to do is walk till a camera angle change and then swing at stuff that may or may not break. You'll be collecting these purple spheres, which never get explained, but they are for upgrading your weapon. The upgrade though, I personally think, really doesn't do much for you. The big problem with this game is bosses, this is where all your frustration is going to come tumbling out. These are the guys who are going to have the attacks that you definitely can't dodge, some of the time, and have attacks that will go right through your defenses. When you do finally beat the boss its going to feel as if it was by accident, not that you outplayed the enemy.

I really wish that this game was something that I could have been excited about, but this game leaves me empty. I kind of like the storyline, but with the fact that the main area doesn't contain a map, and if you're following the map (when you have it) and you pick up the purple spheres, the map will disappear for a little bit. Sorry to say there are parts  of this game that feel like they came from the original PlayStation. The only redeeming feature in this game is the over-abundance of save points. You'll be thankful for those as you'll be returning to those quite often after a cheap death. This game gets a 4.7 out of 10.
