Quick Look: Darkspore

I'm not loving the UI aesthetics in this, and that's usually one of Maxis' strengths. Reminds me of a cheap iOS game. 

I was excited to play this until I got in the beta and yeah, they took out the best part of spore (being able to create your own original creatures, not just modify templates) and the gameplay is little more than diablo clone 9 billion with gimmicky character swapping.  Shame, so much potential just like the original.

Guess I wont be building a penis warrior then.

Almost fell asleep watching this QL as this game is devoid of things that I find interesting.

To be perfectly honest, i can't see the problem with the game. its not as indepth as Torchlight or D2 in terms of abilities. in all honesty, it really does look like good ol' mind numbing violent fun XD

For some reason I thought "Darkspore" was the RTS FPS game. Anyone one what game that really is?

Damnit. The trailer(s) really made me think I wouldn't like this game, but this QL has me thinking otherwise now. :P

You can say Darkspore is an okay game, but I'd say I'd rather play Torchlight. Yes, I say Torchlight over Diablo II because the latter is horribly outdated from a graphical standpoint. When Diablo III is released, that will probably be my new defacto standard answer to loot-based gaming.

I really enjoyed what I played of this game, but it was very disappointing that you can't actually create your own characters.  Even having a more limited version of the creator in Spore would have been nice, playing as the set monsters didn't really do it for me, even if you could tweak them a little.

This, uh, actually got me excited?  Like damn.  If I didn't have finals/MCAT/Orgo, I would be buying this right now.

Happy times with darkspore. I don't have the time for this more because I have other stuff I want to spend my time on. Maybe in a few years.

The action looks simple and boring, much like the environments... And I LIKED Diablo.

Super lame that the entire Spore side of it seems to make no gameplay difference at all.  It's just a fancy looking equipment screen.

Should be creating dudes from scratch, looting body parts as you go to make your team of dudes more badass.  Your damage, speed, accuracy etc. stats should be derived from how much 'Biomass Currency' (to limit each creature - with the limit increasing as the game progresses) you use on different parts.  Abilities should be based on the right combination of body part types and stats.

The reason Torchlight and Diablo are awesome is because they have a great, traditional fantasy aesthetic.  This just looks like poop.  Doesn't even matter how it plays.  It's just uninteresting.  You can't have an RPG-style game without CHARACTERS.

If the monsters are boring looking, its only because users (like you) design them that way. So I guess the pattern remains; someone makes a game mechanically identical to Diablo and people are bored with it, yet somehow the exact same gameplay in Diablo is amazing. Blizzard makes a living being the only "good game" in genres full of games that play the same way. "

The beta was neat. I might buy this when it's $20, if Diablo III isn't out by then.

This looks like something I need to buy, but I will probably wait til a sale. I have WAY TOO MANY GAMES to play right now.

It's really weird that this came out with zero fanfare.  Seems alright.

I like Darkspore 

Part of me hopes they continue to upgrade and use the spore creator for future games. It was innovative, but the game it launched with was so simplistic.
