Overview
Sega Tetris is a falling-block puzzle game developed by Sega AM1 and released by Sega for arcades (using their Dreamcast-based NAOMI hardware) in Japan on November 1999.
Part of the Tetris series of puzzle games, Sega Tetris plays similar to traditional Tetris (namely Sega's earlier arcade entries) and is notable for its 3D graphics (including dynamic 3D backgrounds that change to a different locale on each level increase) and slot machine mechanic (which can award bonus points based on consecutive line clears of the same number). It also includes one-on-one versus multiplayer, in which different levels of line clears determine how the opponent is attacked (including a unique "Joint" attack which forces the opponent to combine their next piece with another).
The game later received a home release for the Sega Dreamcast on November 23, 2000. Ported by Wow Entertainment, this version features online multiplayer for up to four players and a UFO Catcher mini-game for unlocking playable characters. It is also one of the few games to support the "Dreamcast VS Cable" accessory for linking multiple consoles directly together.
It is notable for being the last official Tetris game to use Sega's rotation system, as the series shifted into using a standardized rotation system (known as the "Super Rotation System").
