Overview
The superbuttons are comparable to
pressure plates, with each of the buttons being linked to a door in the test chambers and
weighted storage cubes often having to be placed on the buttons to keep them depressed while the participant passes through the door. To add an element of challenge certain puzzles may require completion before participants are given the cube to hold down the button, and buttons have also been known to be placed in hard-to-reach areas or be surrounded by turrets. Statements from
GLaDOS suggest that prolonged exposure to the button may have some sort of adverse effect on humans although she has been known to be a generally poor source of factual information.
