Crystal Cave is a series of subterranean chambers in Dark Souls that exist beneath the Duke's Archives. It can be reached from a courtyard accessible through a hidden passage at the rear of the Archives, which slopes down towards a gigantic mass of crystal protruding from the mouth of the cave. As in the adjoining courtyard, Crystal Golems serve as the main sentries in this area. Footing inside the cave is treacherous; several narrow crystalline structures form natural bridges that must be crossed to proceed, some of which are invisible. A developer message appears along one of the invisible bridges as a hint, and careful observation of the constant "crystal rain" inside the cave may reveal these hidden paths as the rain strikes the surface. Crystal Cave also appears to be a breeding ground for Moonlight Butterflies; several of these creatures appear in the area, but they will not attack the player unless provoked.
When the player discovers the final chamber containing the Primordial Crystal, Seath the Scaleless will arrive for a second boss battle. However, upon destroying the Primordial Crystal, Seath becomes vulnerable to the player's attacks and may be fought conventionally.
The Man Eater Shells found near the final chamber provide an excellent source of Twinkling Titanite, a crafting component required to upgrade most unique weapons.
