    Dream Library

    Concept »

Original concept for downloading the emulated back catalog from prior systems.

    Short summary describing this concept.

    Overview

The first true service to provide this feature, the Dreamcast library provided the means to download the company's backlog of games from prior generations. This is a slight variation on their Sega Channel, which only allowed for games on the same console to be downloaded. Running games off a previously seen emulator, the Dreamcast library offered nearly 50 titles by using Dream Passport 3.

Amongst the many firsts which originated on the Dreamcast, this one never seemed to catch on outside of Japan, but it's yet another reason why the console is considered to be far ahead of its time.
