Cancellation
For the first time since its inception in 1995, E3 missed a year. The industry event was cancelled by The Entertainment Software Association on March 11, 2020 due to "increased and overwhelming concerns about COVID-19 virus. The ESA stated it planned on contacting attendees and exhibitors concerning refunds for registration fees.
They also announced an intention to potentially hold a coordinated online presentation in order to continue the tradition of having new game announcements at the show, but that was officially cancelled on April 7, 2020.
Lastly, the ESA stated they intend on bringing a "reimagined" event for E3 2021.
