Overview
After being canceled in 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ESA handed over E3 planning to ReedPop, the company responsible for PAX, New York Comic Con, and other events. The plan was that ReedPop's experience running events would bring E3 back to the Los Angeles Convention Center for the first time since 2019 with a revamped version of the show for both press and public.
In March 2023, various publishers began to back out or cancel their plans to participate in the event. Without Sony, Xbox, Nintendo, Sega, Ubisoft, and others participating, the ESA and ReedPop announced on March 30th that E3 2023 had been officially canceled.
Before the cancellation, the plan was to have a split schedule for press and public similar to Gamescom.
