The Last Stand - Pretty basic good old hold out against zombie game with some other mechanics

Madness Interactive - 2D shooter/beat-em-up based on a series of flash animations(I think this may be the first popular one I discovered through friends at school back in the day)

Crush the Castle - Trebuchet based physics game that always made me go "hey Angry birds ripped them off!"

Disclaimer: Ben please play this one live. Your live reaction to it is important. It is G- rated, I promise. I played this feels like 15 years ago and thought it was amazing. Play with the volume on.

It's called Quest for the Crown.

Trust me on this.

I remember enjoying the Emo Game series. Can guarantee it doesn't stand up these days and is super offensive and shitty by 2020 standards. Sorry!

http://emogame.com/emogame1/index.html

http://emogame.com/emogame2/index.html

Edit: Having played the start of both games after posting this they are WAY shittier than I remember and I probably wouldn't recommend streaming without vetting them first. Again I'm sorry. I've left the urls but un-hyperlinked them.

Is this the original "Steamworld Dig"?

I opened this thread to specifically link this one, because this was always one of my favourites. I've always wondered where the trail for this "genre" of game started and went.

There are lot enough Dig-likes!

All the stuff on Orisinal. Just super chill, simple minigames. They're the "hot cup of coffee and a book on a Sunday morning" of games.

https://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/

And of course it'd be a crime not to play one of the surviving Stickdeath.com games, super early Flash stuff with glorious late 90s edge that was weirdly influential. Thankfully, there are a few rehosts of the SWFs scattered around. (and this one's on a Tripod anime site, which is *chef's kiss* so perfect)

Tower of Heaven - A super rad platformer that slowly adds twists as it goes, with a bangin' soundtrack. The folks who made this went on to make Katana Zero.

Pause Ahead - Another awesome-soundtrack-possessing platformer with a cool mechanic. From the folks who made Tower of Heaven.

Continuity - A platformer where you have to slide panels to construct paths to where you need to go. Also has a cool soundtrack.

You Only Live Once - A platformer that you have one chance to beat. Be sure to refresh it once you win or lose.

Steamshovel Harry - A game where the goal is to save Earth from aliens. Just mind that tutorial...

Hero's Adventure - A quick RPG. WARNING - it will unsettle you.

Murloc RPG - An unofficial World of Warcraft game where you play as a murloc.

Don't Shoot the Puppy - A game where the goal is to not shoot the puppy.

Burrito Bison - As far as get-to-the-end type games go this is one of the better ones.

Music Catch 2 - A music game where the music determines what kind of level you get. You eventually get the ability to use your own music.

Papa's Hot Doggeria - I picked this one, but really, you could do any of the Papa's [restaurant] games on that site. They're like slower-paced, more focused versions of Cook! Serve! Delicious!

Not a flash game but I wanted to include this -

Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter 3 - Better as a video, unfortunately, but it's a damn fine flash animation. Just don't mind the plot, it's really dumb.

@shagge: echoing your sentiment about Orisinal games. Such simple, self contained mini games but with this soft and warm aesthetic theme shared amongst the whole collection; its such a nice, stylistic through-line

@nikral: damn Super Smash Flash is such a fucking trip to think about, i remember playing it in middle school on my family's home pc and thinking it was coolest game, i remember it feeling so slippery and quick I'll have to check it out now.

@dezinus: hot damn i can't believe i forgot about that game. Upgrade complete was a fucking blast and really took that common flash game "upgrade loop" to the next level with having you spend in game currency to upgrade the graphics and the menus and such along with your ship. Played the hell out of that game and the sequel back in the day.

@cosbot: both of those games are classic flash games imo, haven't thought about them in over a decade. Man, great calls.

Portal: Flash Version was actually my first exposure to Portal and when i played the real game on the Orange Box my mind was blown how the game was transported into 3D. Like Super Mario Bros becoming Super Mario 64.

Pacxon was such a cool mix of Pacman and Xonix, it was so addicting to play and trying to trap the ghosts in as small of spaces as possible; just a little ghost trapped in a 1x1 space forever, muahahahaha i loved it

Time Fcuk is a game made by the same guy who made Super Meat Boy. Its a tense, sad, and strange puzzle platformer inspired by Edmund McMillen's high school reunion. On top of having a pretty great story mode, it also features a level creator and the ability to upload your levels or download other people's creations. There's even a mode where it generates a single player campaign made entirely of user-made levels arranged in order of difficulty, kind of like Super Mario Maker but made back in 2009. It's my #1 favorite flash game of all time. The soundtrack is also pretty great, I still listen to it!

If you have trouble playing it in a browser, it can also be found in "The Basement Collection" which is available on Steam.

There was some Flight Simulator paper plane game that I remember spending too much time on, I have no idea where it would live now, but that definitely wasted captured my attention for a longass while.

Club Penguin proper is down, but a fan made rewrite of it is up and working. I used to play a ton of the minigames on that when I was young, but I imagine I skew younger than a lot of the GB audience.

@judoboy: these were the two of the few games on my uncle's computer from twenty years ago. when my family would go to philly to visit on holidays i would plop myself down in his computer room and play Snowcraft and Elf Bowling. His computer also had Snood (SNOOD) and Frogapult which i also enjoyed

them elves were always so cheeky and satisfying to topple, and i played a bunch of elf bowling 2 which was more like shuffleboard but also, during downtime, when your cursor was off the board it became a crosshair and you had gun you could use to shoot penguins climbing an iceberg in the background lol.

Snowcraft tip team here, saying to put all your men in the bottom corner when not in use. guaranteed to work for like four levels.
