Favourite Games of 2013
2013 has been a weird year for games for yours truly. Having picked up/played very little of the big releases this year, my list probably looks rather odd. I don't think it would really change all that much if I had, though.

Undoubtedly my favourite game of the year, if not all time. Gunpoint combines hilarious dialogue, a great story, and excellent emergent gameplay all together in one maximalist (thank you Stephen Swift) package, and it is a truly beautiful experience.
Antichamber just barely gets beaten out by Gunpoint for the top spot in my list. I finished this game in a mere three hours of time actually playing the game, but every waking moment I spent away from my computer during that endeavour was filled with thoughts of this game.
The puzzles within this austere, mysterious, and beautiful game are a masterpiece.
As a long-time fan of the original mod, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game, and I was not disappointed. Ok, well maybe a little. There were a couple things that didn't carry over that I wish did, but basically every part of this game is a joy to move through.
Davey Wreden did indeed prove that a videogame can make you cry.
I loved this so god damn much that I'm seriously considering buying a 3DS literally just to play Dual Destinies.
This game is fucking beautiful. Mike gave me a code for this over Twitter, and I wish he hadn't. The man deserves my money. Can't wait for Volume.
For the first time ever I played System Shock 2 this year, and by god was it a *great* experience. I like Bioshock, but this game blows it out of the fucking water.
Was late to the party on this one, but man do I love this game now. It can be a bit iffy, as with all RNG turn-based strategy titles, but is incredibly satisfying when you manage to pull off a mission flawlessly.
The only disappointment this game gave me was that I wish it had come to the PC sooner. I would've loved to take part in the ARG-like madness this game spawned during its initial release.
This game has diving *and* kicking. 'Nuff said.
Rogue Legacy has provided me with nearly 30 hours of rogue-like-like-like (ad infinatum) fun since I bought it a couple weeks ago. It also includes a surprisingly dark and sad story. Really enjoyed this one.
As someone who prior to 2013 has never really gotten into fighting games, Skullgirls provided a unique opportunity for me. Without any series baggage and what was advertised as excellent tutorials this seemed like a perfect fit.
The only thing keeping this from being higher in the list is how opaque fighting games were, and still are, to me.
Alan Wake came to PC at the end of 2012, so I finally got to play it this year, and it was definitely worth the wait.
I played through this game getting my mother to spectate, and it was a truly excellent experience.
Watched the first 10 minutes of this game's Quick Look and immediately knew I had buy it. Queue half an hour of me and a buddy playing bullet tennis.
Worth.
I like Starcraft. Certainly not as much as most, but I love me a good RTS, and while nothing will ever beat DOW: Dark Crusade for me, this provided an excellent campaign and some great shake-ups for the multiplayer.
I was really looking forward to Monaco since I caught wind of it during development. It's a shame it didn't truly live up to my expectations.
However, playing 4-player co-op and saying "Fuck it! Go loud!" at the first moment of discovery never gets old.
