2012 Year End List

With all the GB crew having their own top 10 lists in addition to year end awards, I figured it was time to toss my underplayed, irrelevant opinion into the ring as well!

2012's 2011 Game of the Year: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim came out extremely late in 2011 and I just could not commit the time to it, but having put time into it now I'd rank it above The Witcher 2 as the best game to release that year. The game that Oblivion should have been and a worthy followup to Morrowind (though not superior in certain areas, such as magic).

2012's 2009 Game of the Year: Borderlands

Back when the original Borderlands came out I grabbed it on launch day. The idea of an FPS Diablo intrigued me. However during my maiden (and for years only) voyage I played as the Berserker class which was totally overpowered and made the game somewhat dull by the midway point. Not until this year when I went back to play it with a friend and I used a different class did I see the true fun this game can be. Right now I'm working diligently on Borderlands 2 and plan to go much deeper down the rabbit hole in it than I did the first.

Best Kickstarter Game that I backed: Fist Puncher

Ok, so it's the only Kickstarter game that I backed, stop confusing the facts! Though not officially "final" yet the game is quite playable and with a little bit of fine tuning could be one of the best beat em' ups released since Streets of Rage 2.

Best screw around game: Trials Evolution

Not much else to add to this. When it came time to blow off steam, this game has been my wall. It's also the leading cause of me saying "fuck" this year.

Best Gaming Experience of the Year (regardless of when the game was released): Deadly Premonition

So a friend bugged me constantly to buy this game........ then he bugged me until I started actually playing it. I should of played it sooner. This game is absolutely brilliant. Amazing game and it led to me watching Twin Peaks, another entertainment highlight for me.

Most significant 2011 purchase that I never got around to playing in 2012: Dark Souls

A dubious award indeed. I liked the first game, but just never found the time to get around to it's sequel.

Biggest waste of time 2012: Diablo 3

I enjoyed playing this game until I reached Inferno, then once I reached Inferno it became my life until I could beat it. Blizzards attempts to add content since have proven uninteresting to me and given how horrible the loot system is, I cannot see myself coming back even for an expansion.

2012 Award most likely to be proven complete bullshit when Blizzard releases an expansion for Diablo 3: See above
