@seriuzbiznus Definitely same. I had a waaayyyy higher run count than anyone else talking about beating it. I tried the God Mode thing, but IIRC it's tuned to be a gradual increase (which makes a lot of sense -- just wish I had done it 25 runs earlier). I loved Hades the experience, but Hades the game taught me that I'm not good at games anymore.

Great list! There's a lot of variety here, in just 10 entries.

Side note, I had the exact same experience with Hades!

This is now canon, more so than anything has ever been.

Yoko Taro mentioning Gravity Rush 2 fills me with warmth and joyous emotions.

@alexw00d: What's your definition of debut if not "100% new IP that was released this year"?

@klager: 100% agree. While it was a fun exercise in connecting the dots, I saw no actual reason to be so literal in setting up the events of Episode IV. Some things just don't require an explanation... or at least, not one that begs all these other questions. (Why did Saw choose to simply poof out of the plot? Why was there no character development for Jyn or Cassian? Why are all the scenes from the trailer NOT IN THE MOVIE? What was the tentacle monster and why is it in this film? Good gravy.)

How cool would a tense, Bothan-filled spy movie have been? James Bond in a Star Wars setting? Oh well. It's a mediocre but visually stunning entry. On to the next one, I guess!

@klager: Wow, I thought I had the harshest opinion of Rogue One... but you took the crown!

I didn't think it was "don't watch it" bad, but there are no characters with a shred of depth. They were poised to give us this awesome espionage story with badass rowdy rebels, but the protagonists are just brutally un-engaging and personality-free. I'm really wondering if I saw the same movie everyone's raving about.

@mvhvtmv: That's a good point. I'll probably play it anyway for all my belly-aching about styyyyyyle. The first one was so much damn fun, and this one does seem to capture the same rhythm.

(The rhythm is usually: Intense silence, silence, CURSING, silence, CURSING AND LAUGHTER, silence, silence, FINAL SCREEN ALREADY?!, CURSING, CURSING, then simultaneously screaming NOOOO and YEEESSSS)

I'm enjoying reading the reactions to this game's look.

The first one jived so well with the Daedalus soundtrack, and the implied yellow/orange blood & gore. Less really was more.

The only way I can really process the jump to this look is if the conceit is this: It's a retro style game, and this is the kind of jump sequels made back in the era it's referencing. (Maybe a much bigger jump than was historically accurate.)

For me, I just don't get why they have to look like ugly, naked, Homer-meets-Stimpy boys. It's off-putting and I hate looking at it. But I'm interested in seeing where they go with it, because Nidhogg was fun as hell. Hopefully we will get a proper online matchmaking that works this time around.
