Quick Look: The Gunk

We want the gunk, gotta have the gunk.

This seems ambitious and cool but lord there’s some writing and delivery quirks I can’t stand. You shouldn’t say the "Huh’s" in a script... it just doesn’t sound natural spoken aloud.

Edit: Holy crap, huh, yeah, uhmmm... I’d play this muted! Ha ha.

That gunk-sucking (guess there’s no way to discuss this game without it sounding gross) does seem extremely satisfying in a PowerWash Simulator way.

I'm all about the Gunk. It gets a bad wrap. Without Gunk, life wouldn't exist. Think about it...

I put about 3 hours into this. It's a simple game that I would recommend if you have some younger siblings it would be perfect for them because nothing in it so far has been incredibly challenging thus far - some really basic combat and puzzles amount to sucking up all the gunk in a room which I think would appear to a younger audience.

One thing I noticed is the game has this weird washed out gamma look to it. When I turned down the brightness that helped a bit but then the dark areas seemed way too dark. Kind of takes away from the look of the game at times.

Shouldn’t this be filed under Quick Look Solo? This site is now just archives of solo Twitch streams surrounded by overly produced and boring shows.

@evilestraptor: this really isn’t true? They’ve been doing a lot of normal Quick Looks.

I really like the look and the general idea but the clunky dialogue and turgid music are missteps.

@kurbe1mr: yup, but the characters don't have British accents, so "sol-der" sounds ridiculous. Still a cool little game though, I'm enjoying it.

3 hours in and I have to say Becks sucks. I don't think she's going to get any better.

THE GUNK

This game seems... aggressively mediocre.

The way they say "soul-der" is driving me crazy.

Weird that they go in on the swears when the game seems to otherwise skew toward a younger clientele.

I played through this in about 2 sittings on the PC. Visuals were quite nice with some real vibrant colours and cool plant designs. But the gameplay itself is incredibly simple and basic. I had almost no use for any of the upgrades beyond the sprint and faster gunk suck. There's little difficulty and it never really ramps up the mechanics or adds anything new...but it's a decent time and at 4-5 hours doesn't overstay it's welcome

@bigsteve33: She does not get better. In fact, she gets worse and then bounces back up to around the same level.

@theodoricfriede: having played and beaten it a couple days ago, that is very much the case. This is the epitome of the 3/5 game.
