S.T.A.L.K.E.R shows that even bug ridden games can be good. 0

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is just one of those games where everything comes together perfectly. Sure, it can be glitchy as hell and the shooting at times is way off but the grim atmosphere of the zone and the rewarding feeling of accomplishment when taking out a big group of enemies is just too good to miss.StoryNow i'll be honest, I lost interest in the story part way through but i'll try and summarise what I remember. You play as a character simply known as "Marked One" and right at the start of the game ...

Good Game Shines Underneath All The Flaws 0

There's a lot to like about this game, and a lot to be turned off by.  I'll start with a list of positives about the game, then go through the negatives.  Really Cool Atmosphere.  The sky is dark, clouds shift and move, decrepit trees and buildings peak out over a shattered countryside.  It really feels like a post-apocalyptic disaster area, with a Russian flair.Intriguing Story.  The game starts out with several mysteries that you follow up on.  Who are you?  What were you doing in a truck fill...

One of the strangest difficulty quirks I've seen doesn't ruin a fantastical, eerie open-world 1

Few games incite as must cult fervor as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Made by several of the people who eventually moved on to the Metro games, this three-game series will instantly spark an enthused discussion and fond remembrance if you mentioned on a message board or to a group of gamers. Anyone with a remote liking of open-world games will inevitably give one a try at some point. I’ve owned the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, Shadow of Chernobyl, for years now. A few times here and there, I’ve trie...

An incredible game only brought down by bugs and poor multiplayer 0

Most of the time, games that have been in development hell and later released fail. Not in this case. Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl was easily on the best PC games of 2007, and is still worth a play. The storyline is very good. Without spoiling too much, I'll give the premise. You play as "Marked One". You were found in a death truck with a strange mark on your arm. You can't remember anything of your past, and set out to find answers. The game takes place in Chernobyl, Ukraine, the sight of ...

You Won't Want To Get Out Of Here, Stalker. 0

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl is evidence that a small developer can make a big name for itself with the right product. Launched in 2007, Shadow of Chernobyl lays the tale of a world in which the Chernobyl power plant has exploded a second time, causing a zone to appear in its surrounding areas. Despite a military block, treasure hunters entered the zone in search of whatever was not bolted down, discovering artifacts of unknown origin. You play as The Marked One, a Stalker who wakes with amnes...

A treasure with lots of dirt around it, but still a treasure. 0

Pros1.Atmosphere. stalker is famous for this and even people who don't like this game agree that this game has a great atmosphere.you completely feel like a lonely man that can't trust anyone except his skills. you can't even trust your guns. because the may get jammed during the heat of battle. this game completely delivers the feeling that the zone is a dangerous place. 2. this game has very good graphics that you can run it even on weak PC's.{ like myself}. but if you have a strong PC, you ca...

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl 0

I was a little late playing this game.  My old computer couldnt handle it so I had to wait until I had a new PC.  Late last year I upgraded and was finally able to play this game plus a couple other ones I'd been waiting to play.  It's been awhile since I've played STALKER so some of it may be foggy but I'll try to review the best I can. The story starts off with you unconsious being dropped off by another Stalker.  You wake up and have no memory of who you are or what your suppose to do.  The o...

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl 0

StorylineSo what can I say about S.T.A.L.K.E.R ? Well Its an RPG, set in Chernobyl, Ukraine, year 2012. The basic story is that you wake up at the very edge of the Zone (Radiation Affected Area) not knowing who you are or how you ended up here. But what you do know is on your PDA it tells you to kill a man called Strelok, and for some reason the man that you first talk to call you marked one. So you have to search around the zone looking for this man and doing quests for people so they give yo...

    Pretty good... 0

I only recently played this game despite the fact that it came out a couple of years ago and its age didn't really affect my experience at all, so it is still worth while to play now as it was when it first came out. Stalker is a shooter first with RPG elements in that it has an inventory and you do manage your characters stats with what armor and artifacts you equip. It is set in an open world known as the Zone which is the twisted remains of Chenobyl as the title suggests.   So to start the ga...

    Almost But Not Quite... 0

I like many other bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl on the release date, expecting to then go home, install it and have a spectacular gaming experience. Unfortunately what I got was merely an 'adequate' experience, to nicely put it. Gameplay: The gameplay for this game is rather ambitious, and isn't bad at all once you get used to it. In fact, it works out quite well. Firefights can be unpredictable at times and the AI, although not amazing does have its ups. In addition to this, the c...

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl 0

STALKER is an interesting if flawed first person shooter that's greatest strength is its atmosphere. It spent a long time to development, leading some to think it would never be released, and it definitely shows its age in some areas. The shooting gameplay itself doesn't really handle the way you'd hope it would in a modern game, leading some combat encounters to be more frustrating than they probably should be. Especially early on, the handguns and hunting shotguns you find simply aren't very e...

Great graphics and atmosphere - but the gameplay is lacking 0

The primary problem with the gameplay is the RPG elements, which, as mentioned by another reviewer, feel like a chore and take away from the firefights. Perhaps if there was better transportation than running available (which is not even possible if you have too much gear) then this wouldn't feel like work, but I really would like less chit chat and the like between actual fights. Also, the game forces you to worry about all these extra aspects that I don't really feel work well with a first per...

The best shooter of its kind. 0

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s development was started in early 2001. Six years later us, the gamers, finally get to play this highly anticipated Shooter. Set in Chernobyl, the site of a large nuclear explosion and radioactive waste land, you are a STALKER. A Stalkers purpose is to collect and cash in on artifacts from Chernobyl that each have special abilities and can be worth a great deal of money. You however are more than your average Stalker. You find yourself with a PDA that gives you one main objectiv...

An underrated story-driven FPS gem. 0

We've been hearing about STALKER for so long, it was hard not to expect the worst when this title finally made it out of development  and onto store shelves. Lukewarm reviews on release didn't help matters, and I never actually planned to ever buy or play this game. But I started hearing from people I respect just how good this game was. How underappreciated and underrated it was. And how it was one of 2007's best first-person shooters, right behind Bioshock. I couldn't believe my ears. Bioshock ...

A detailed and atmospheric world with very impressive gameplay 1

Last time I played a game with a huge amount of potential I had great feelings about the future of the First Person Shooter genre. The game combined the shooting elements I loved with the choice and character development of an RPG. To my great disappointment the game did not kick start a revolution, it seemed as though most had just ignored it despite it’s stellar ratings. Deus Ex is the game I’m referring to and after almost 7 years the mix of genres has been drastically under utilized, only a ...

Bad Guys, Big Guns, and Vodka! 0

Graphics:- Graphically, out of the gate Stalker isn't going to win too many awards. The environment can come off being static, and some of the character models, and faces could have used improvement. I should note this has been an issue with me since the initial release of this title.- Even though the environment can come of bland, and drab in the color department, and some of the environmental fixtures are somewhat static, hey what do you expect when most of the areas are wastelands? What sets ...

One that blows your mind away 0

Six long years. It took six years for GSC of Russia to turn S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl (referred to as stalker for the rest of this review) into a playable form. Of course there are some bugs in the game, but should we really expect any game to be bug free, even if it has been in development for six years; no. The game introduces you to your scenario with a very high quality cinematic, which exposes who your character is. Apparently you fell out of a “death truck” when it was hit by ligh...

A game with a lot of good ideas and quite a few problems 0

Let me just get this out in the open before I get too far. I never finished this game. Take that for what you will, but I'm the kind of person that typical finishes every game I play. I've been a fan of FPSs for several years now and a fan of RPGs for as long as I can remember, so you can imagine that I though that STALKER would be a perfect fit for me. Everything about this game sounded interesting to me when I decided to but it. Unfortunately, I started running into problems almost as soon as...

    STALKER: SHADOW OF CHERNOBYL 1

STALKER: SHADOW OF CHERNOBYL The year is 2012, six years after a second meltdown occurred within a Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The land of has been deformed and left with many abnormalities, deformed wildlife and men known as STALKERS who scavenge the area of Chernobyl, looking for valuable artifacts. Awaking from a road accident, you are left with amnesia, a tattoo on your arm that says STALKER and a PDA with an instruction to kill a man named Strelok. With little choice you must complet...
