A protagonist who lacks some or all of the qualities traditionally seen as heroic.
Hatred of or discrimination of, magic and those who practice it. A common element in darker works of Sword and Sorcery Fantasy settings, though real-life witch hunts also repeatedly occurred throughout history out of a fear of witchcraft.
The inverse of an anti-hero. An anti-villain is a villain that portrays him/herself as someone who is just and altruistic while is secretly working towards an otherwise nefarious and villainous goal. Common archetypes of anti-villains are politicians and religious figures who craft a wholesome and good-natured image to hide their evil intentions; this may even sometimes include doing good deeds, but only as a temporary measure to potentially further their true ambitions.
Either through a concealing helmet, keeping the whole game in first person, or using clever camera work, the player character is kept faceless throughout an entire game.
The counterpart to 'faceless hero'. Sometimes the 'faceless evil' doesn't appear at all, but when it does, the player doesn't get a look at its face.
Fascism is a extremist totalitarian, nationalistic political ideology. Within video games, various fascist regimes are often portrayed as the enemy within the Second World War.
A heavily armored soldier in the service of a lord or cause. Typically a champion of good and a defender of the innocent.
Veteran cannon fodder that have made appearances in more than one game, often with a small cosmetic change each time.
A gathering of people who believe in the same higher power(s), and follow the rules laid out by the mortals chosen to be their prophets. Video games generally try to shy away from negatively portraying real religions to avoid controversy, however they make ample use of fictional in-game religions.
Games designed for specific religious communities.
The religion of Ferelden and much of the rest of Thedas. Followers believe in The Maker and the teachings of His prophet, Andraste.
Anguish of body or mind. Can be used by authority figures to extract sensitive information that would not be given under normal circumstances.
Knights in white or shiny silver armor. The term "White Knight" is often used to denote an exceptionally noble or chivalrous individual, synonymous with the similar descriptor of "Knight in Shining Armor". Despite this, not all White Knights in fiction are heroes...
Witch hunters hunt down those suspected of witchcraft.
