The Last of Us Part II's best lesson is not one on the human condition, but on unhealthy fandoms and expectations 0

This review contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part II.To discuss The Last of Us Part II today is to wade into one of the most toxic landscapes in games, conceived and operated by some of this hobby's most unreasonable bigoted participants. This is unfortunate, because Naughty Dog's latest is pretty spectacular. The new additions to the cast are seriously greatThe 2013 series debut was heralded as a swan song for the PlayStation 3, one that effectively raised the bar for dramatic storytelling w...

The Last of Us Part II is an exhausting experience, mostly for the worse. 1

There were several parts of The Last of Us Part II where I thought that this had to be the end, right? Storylines were resolved, characters were redeemed, revenge had been enacted, and the story appeared to have nothing more to say. However, it just kept going. Another cutscene, another hour of rummaging through an abandoned building, another combat scenario requiring a half dozen resets. Whatever it was, it just kept going. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game of such a high produ...

    Nemesis 0

As if to confirm our species’ penchant for irrational hate it was only a few short days after finishing that I learnt of the death threats sent to Laura Bailey, one of the principal voice actors in The Last of Us: Part II.It is perplexing as it is wretched, and suggests many people either didn’t play or didn’t grasp any of the themes that underpin Naughty Dog’s decidedly grim survival sequel. In it we find Ellie and Joel again some years later, living in Jackson, Wyoming,...

The Last of Us Part 2 - Spoiler Review 0

When "Part 2" is added on to a sequel title as opposed to a sequential number many begin to wonder why it would alter the convention of just slapping a number onto the title and giving it a basic label. The Last of Us Part 2 is the most Part 2 thing ever; three days before Part 2 was released I finished the first game again, which I had not replayed since the game originally came out and had bought the Remaster in an online swap bundle never really intending to play it. Hot off the first game i...

Missing the mark on story and gameplay 0

I don't write reviews often, but playing this was a chore for the most part. The story-telling was heavy-handed and at times I would say somewhat nonsensical. The more "open" world feel was to the game's detriment, and left me feeling somewhat lost at points and often wondering why it was necessary at all. I'm not going to get into the people who come out of the woodwork because of their twisted opinions, this review has nothing to do with any sort of bias other than how I felt playing it. It w...

Wallowing in the misery of revenge, blood and gore 2

The Last of Us Part 2 is a big budget AAA sequel to a game that didn’t need one and features a brutal story that doesn’t know how to end. The graphics are highly polished with visuals out of a blockbuster movie. The narrative features expertly crafted cinematography and motion capture. The game is also extremely violent with depictions of gore, torture and dismemberment. The story is an emotionally draining experience and maintains a somber tone throughout the 30 or so hours it takes...

    A masterpeice 0

This game is a very strong follow uo to one of my favourite games of all time. Only real shame is how loud my ps4 fans were, but the gameplay was smooth on the base PS4. The story flows very well and they do a good job of keeping you hooked. It will also be very interesting to see what Naughty Dog will be able to do on the PS5 as this game looks and sounds incredible....

Excellent from Beginning to End 0

The Last of Us 2 is a game that many people felt wasn't needed after the first game, myself included, but was pleasantly surprised that they improved over the first game in just about every way I can think of. I'm still shocked at how well done the writing of the characters were, the world building, and overall quality of the game that I'm surprised this was even possible in a game that doesn't fluster on one of those parts.Even with overwhelming odds at times, there is always another option in...

    A huge disappointment... 1

This is going to be shorter than I'd like because the biggest issues I have is HOW the story is told not the content itself but how it's written. I can't go into it without spoilers which is a major problem when reviewing this game.Let's start with gameplay. The controls are very fluid and they make combat easy. Sony has also included options to make it even easier. For example you can disable weapon away or change how good the ai is at specific things. Overall that's a great idea especial...

The Last of Us 2 is not the catharsis we need. *Spoilers* 0

United States Circa 2020The Last of Us 2 closes out the PS4/XBoxOne era with a whimper. Naughty Dog is an overrated puppy mill in the 3rd-person action genre. There are glimpses of what the PS5 might do but this game lays bare the tropes and tired gameplay that has existed in gaming ever since the Playstation 1. Games need to evolve.THPS3 on PSXThe PS1 closed out its amazing collection of games with enough diversity that it's impossible to name just one as the definitive PSX game. Though the PS...

would give 4.5 if possible 0

(almost) all the complaints about this game are about the story so at the end of the day you have to play it for yourself to see if the criticisms resonate with you. i found the story to be excellent, believable, and moving. once i finished the game, i spent time with friends, the game reminded me how important it is to spent time with loved ones and that the way to deal with loss is not revenge, but moving towards a reality that will bring you joy.there are a few reasons i would give 4.5 instea...

An Unneeded Sequel - But a Welcome One 0

In my opinion, TLOU was a perfect game that never needed a sequel, it is without a doubt one of my favourite games ever made. Consequently I was very skeptical of TLOU2, but for the most part was proved wrong. It is a stunningly gorgeous game that touches on some of the darkest parts of the human condition. The Last of Us 2 largely follows the story of Ellie, Joel’s companion from the first game, as she comes to grips with her new life and events that occurred in the first game. There stil...

The Last of Us Part II 0

Really a special experience and the result of an incredible vision and attention to detail. The standard to which this game is being held by some gamers is ludicrous. Incredibly dark and difficult to stomach but if you can enjoy that type of story you're in for something special. There has never been a game like this and a universe this well developed.Played unspoiled at launch...

The Last of The Last of Us on the PlayStation 4. 0

A word of warning: this may be the longest review yet. Before we get into this review, the plot for the sequel to The Last of Us was leaked online, which revealed major plot details and pivotal cutscenes. Many major characters ended up dying in disgrace and because of Naughty Dog's out-of-control crunch culture and poor attitude towards its employees. However, some of the elements present in the leaks were confirmed to not have been seen in the final game. At the time, people suspect that a disgr...

    Great 0

I've always been apprehensive about talking about The Last of Us. While it was garnering critical and commercial acclaim, I was wondering what the big deal was. The gameplay is pretty poor, the story very derivative. That all changed with the second entry. This game is great. It plays so much better than the first, it's true, but the real triumph is that I actually care about the story. I almost never care about game stories! Literally on the edge of my seat wondering how the developer would c...
