2008's Game of the Year, As Chosen By You

I voted for Gears but only because I didn't get to play MGS4 so I didn't want to vote for a game I never played before even though I know it's amazing.

I haven't played MGS4 so I voted for GTA IV

I just recently played through the game. It may have been the fact that my wife kept sighing in my ear that the cut scenes went on forever or it may have been the longwinded explanations of everything I thought best left to the imagination, but I didn't really like it. It really says something that I was able to beat the game portion (cut scenes not included) in 5 hours my first playthrough. I thought the animation was breathtaking and there were high points in the narative, but overall it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I should have played it way before the hype (of course I didn't have a PS3 then) then maybe I wouldn't have been so tainted. oh well, on to bigger and better things.

I didn't vote for MGS4 simply because I didn't play it.  My vote went to GTA4.

It deserves it really. Though I'm still going to be a Molyneux and say LBP was incredible.

I would vote for "The Professor's Lab" made by me, for my computer science class, but then again that's an extremely biased choice. It was a platformer involving a professor who kame hame ha'd his failed experiments, oh how wonderful it was.

In regards to GOTY, I'm not sure what I would pick, but a lack of content was the issue for me in MGS4. But then again, I did pull off the foxhound emblem with relative ease and got half way through my big boss emblem without using the solar gun and gave up out of boredom. Maybe other people found it more challenging and thus enjoyed it more. Oh and the ending for me was utter dissappointment, didn't feel very impactful and felt too much of a warm send off for snake after MGS3 (my favourite and only mentioned for comparison reasons, i know its not the same snake) and the sad, ending it contained which really impacted me more.

I would have voted for Time Crisis 4 because I can't nitpick it to death. That was last year right...?

mgs4 totally deserves goty awards, so no bones there.

w00t! Go MGS4! It was the only game released this year that lived up to, and exceeded my expectations. Flawless game IMO.

My pick. The overall experience of this game was INTENSE. It's epic, wicked, insane, sexy. Never before have I finished a game 5 times in 3 weeks. Perfection.

Weak, I guess I kind of threw my vote away on Braid but I adamantly disagree with the MGS4 decision. Oh well, guess it doesn't really matter.

It's good for what it is, heck it's great for what it is, but to me it just isn't enough of a game to justify it as game of the year.  Interactive movie of the year maybe, but not game of the year.

I said metal gears was game the year but for some fucking reason I voted for fallout 3.

I voted for Gears of War 2. I had the most fun with that game. Though I can live with MGS being GotY. That shit was amazing.

Dude, Infinite Undiscovery wasn't even the best 360-exclusive JRPG to come out THAT MONTH.  There's no way that's game of anyone's year.

On the topic of Solid Snake, he looks just like Tom Selleck. Who looks just like my dad. You have no idea how cool it was playing MGS 4 as my own father. It was like the game was made for me, and Tom Selleck's kids.

I think MGS4 is the perfect Game of The Year winner.
I also enjoyed GTAIV but that game wasn't fully realized, there was a poor amount of side missions and barely anything to do in the city, also the game manages to have one of the worst video game endings I have ever seen (it's just not worth beating the game to see, terrible how some developers rush their games sometimes), which is too bad because the rest of the story was absolutely fantastic.
MGS4 is amazing on it's gameplay, story, and production levels. Kojima productions put an astounding amount of work into the game and they obviously poured their hearts into the story and characters to make an amazing finale.
For me the game wins on gameplay and story acheivment, but also it wins on Kojima's hard work ethic they put into their game.
Truly good games are made by those who truly work hard at their craft and take their fans into consideration. And Hideo Kojima and team definetly fit that part.
(I also liked Banjo-Kazooie!!)

Wow, this is surprising. Makes me happy that a community can actually like a game with a decent story (my personal favorite).  Second on my list was fallout 3. Other big titles this year were good overall, but they cant take on old snake.  Oh yeah, fable 2 is a violent version of Sims.... and thats all im gonna say about that crap

Glad to see MGS4 won, GTAIV would have been acceptable, but MGS4 is definitely my preference.

I think I voted for Left 4 Dead. I knew I was throwing my vote away, but at the same time, I love that game to... death?! Huh? Huhhh??? Anybody?

I guess I would have chosen differently if I had put more thought into it. The lack of maps really drags that game down over time.

demos for MGS4 and MGS4O totally disappointed me

japanese shooters aren't for me ... i just couldn't get into it
specially because of controls, because of the setting i don't understand ... it's not for me, but i believe it's great

Thats pretty amazing since only like a quarter of the people on the site have ps3's. Then again, how many different games would you pick for GOTY on PS3 compared to 360.
