Apple Finally Reveals the iPhone 6

There's also a watch thing that will probably have games for it eventually, too.

No Caption Provided

We all knew it was coming, but Apple made everything official today with an iPhone 6 announcement. It's two phones, actually.

The big theme this year is size. There's a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch phone being called the iPhone 6 Plus. The resolutions of the two devices are slightly different: 1334x750 on the iPhone 6 and 1920x1080 on the iPhone 6 Plus. Both are powered by Apple's new 64-bit A8 processor.

Games have been part of Apple's reveals for a while now, and a mobile MOBA (try saying that a few dozen times) called Vainglory took center stage.

More details about both phones are available on Apple's website, and pre-orders begin on Friday. The phones ship on September 19.

The company also announced a wearable device called the Apple Watch, but didn't demonstrate any possibilities for games. Developers will have a chance to build apps for the Apple Watch, however, which means games are likely to be a part of it eventually. The Apple Watch ships sometime in early 2015.

What a "me too" product. The 6+ is a 5.5" Display device that is larger than its competition (Note 3 and G3 are both shorter than it). Only the 6+ offers IOS for the camera making the normal 6 just the same as before with software tweaks. Lets ignore the fact that the 6 is still not up to the standard 1080p resolution of every other flagship in the industry.

The watch is thicker than others, is not steel unless you pay a premium (over the already $350 price tag) and the band is not standard so you are stuck with "Apple Approved" bands.

Apple has not offered NOTHING new with their products.

With that 5.5" display I'm back in on the iPhone bandwagon. It will be interesting to see what mobile game developers will do with Metal. Maybe someone will release a mobile game I want to play.

Are you possibly implying that Apple's products are overpriced and inadequate? What in the world could make you think that?

@sterling: Did you watch the video on Drew's trip to North Korea? That's not gaming related. Patrick and Drew's trip to Iceland, the video at least, was mainly travel and culture info, not so much gaming related.

Seeing how Apple's products originally made mobile gaming explode and become accessible to all different types of gamers, I don't see how this isn't gaming news. A new and bigger screen and better new processor could potentially shift the direction of future mobile games on the app store.

I guess they're not into the whole dpi thing anymore?

I'm gonna have to get a new work phone, guess I might take a 4.7" iphone 6 for free, at least as long as I can't use a windows phone.

I really hope this mobile MOBA becomes a big e-sport and we just have teams standing on a big stage playing on a phone.

Are you we not allowed to collectively voice our opinions in the comments section? What is the point of the comments section? For actual debate won't one go the forums? Isn't the comment section here to allow us to provide instant and directly related reaction to a story or video, whether that feedback be positive or negative.

I'm not stirring the pot or trying to be a smart ass. I'm just voicing my genuine opinion on this matter.

Within the realm of our moderation, yes. It's not a freeform playground. And I'm not going to watch this turn into 100 comments about why there's not more Android news on the site. End of story.

@amafi: The only way Apple are really ahead of other phone manufacturers at this point is in mobile chipsets. They started this "revolution"in smartphones by being the first with a capacitive screen then moved onto high resolution but now you see the likes of Samsung and LG with phones that have screens that are 1440p and their "Retina" displays have been behind the curve for a couple of years now at least. There does seem like there will be a bit of a trade off with these new phones though. The 6 having a lower resolution screen but having the same processor as the 6+ which is rendering at a higher resolution will mean that game performance should actually be better. We saw that this was the case with the iPad 3 where the higher resolution meant games were actually performing worse than the lower resolution iPad 2. The 6+ on the other hand will have a larger battery, the camera has OIS and in landscape, it'll perform much more like an iPad.

I contest that anyone posting comments such as: "this isn't a gaming platform" and "this isn't gaming news" is not a gamer. A gamer looks for quality games no matter where they're found. I own a gaming PC, an iPad, and every console and handheld from the last 15 years, and I still find myself playing quality mobile games when they're released.

Understood. However, I don't believe there was enough evidence to suggest that this was going to turn into an Apple vs Android debate. Actually, I believe that the initial comment (and subsequent posts) were instigating a debate as to whether the announcement of a new phone qualifies as video game news and should thus be present on this website (irrespective of the phone's software).

In addition, I don't believe that a few people voicing the same opinion qualifies as evidence of a 'freedom playground'. Isn't it just a few people thinking the same thing?
