Halo: Reach-Themed Silver Xbox 360 S On The Way

Hitting alongside Halo: Reach later this year.

Microsoft proved whispers of a Halo: Reach-themed Xbox 360 S bundle true in short order at San Diego Comic-Con, unveiling the silver hardware for the first time and announcing precious details that should seem familiar to anyone who bit on, say, the Modern Warfare 2 or Final Fantasy XIII bundles.

The Halo: Reach limited edition bundle, in which a subdued and tasteful silver Xbox 360 S clearly steals the show, will be made available on September 14 alongside the launch of Bungie's last Halo title. The console itself will host 250GB of storage and the whole bundle will retail at $400.

The bundle will include, of course, a copy of the game in addition to a wired silver headset, two silver controllers, a download voucher for a bit of Elite armor, and an episode of the Halo anime, Halo: Legends.

Need more themed controllers? Wires make you feel blue on the inside? No worries. In an effort to keep cashing in on this offer, Microsoft will also be selling a Halo: Reach-themed wireless headset and wireless controllers in August. The controller will hit retail at $60 and will come with a Covenant Banshee avatar item, while the headset will hit at $50.

Here's some images for ya if you're into this sort of thing. I should note before you look that the press materials mention this themed Xbox "also features custom sound effects from the Halo universe." Major Nelson has since revealed on Twitter that the machine will make "Halo-inspired" sound when you turn the machine on and eject a disc. Surely, that won't get old.

UPDATE: Major Nelson has revealed when the 360 will make a sound. Previously, we didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up,  yoshimitz707!

I just wish they'd show more of the controller. For example, is it like the controller that came with the Halo 3 360 and is all (in this case) silver with a different color battery pack or is it like the other Halo controllers with just a different faceplate? Basically I'm wondering if I should buy plug and play packs now or wait to see if it's included.

I pretty much just got a new 360, not one of the new 360's though but I don't need the WiFi nor the extra space. an Elite that comes with Halo ODST and Forza 3 for about 2/3rds of the price of the new 360 is a much better deal for me.

I already have a 360 and it works just fine, but I really appreciate the fact that they're bundling Reach with this and altered some of the sounds when you turn it on. Good touches.
