Sega Bringing Crush Back from the Portable Grave on 3DS

If your brain hurt the first time around, imagine things coming out of the screen.

No Caption Provided

I can't blame you for not remembering Crush for PSP, despite the fact that it was pretty great. It's been four years since the perspective-altering puzzler arrived on PSP, and while it would have been reasonable to expect Sega had long left Crush behind, that's not the case.

Today, we have CRUSH3D.

It's unclear how much of CRUSH3D is simply an extension of the mostly-forgotten Crush for PSP or a wholly original creation for 3DS. The press release says CRUSH3D includes "new locations, characters and an intuitive hint system," in addition to a gift-giving feature powered by StreetPass. At last, a new reason to aimlessly walk around with your 3DS.

Understanding Crush is easier via playing than description, but fundamentally, you're shifting your perspective around while also altering dimensions. With the click of a button, the 3D space becomes 2D, allowing you to traverse distances that would be utterly impossible in the 3D space and vice versa.

Two in a row?

Edit: Hell yeaaaah two for two. Just got First on the dream trigger 3D trailer before this.

Never played the original Crush, but always wanted to. If the 3DS keeps looking this bad, I may never play this one either. Also, it seems that with Klepek on board Giant Bomb is getting some interesting news ahead of a lot of other sites. Nice.

Sounds like a perfect place for that game to be. I remember it as a pretty unique puzzle game.

We've known they were remaking this for 3DS for months.

It pulled off the perspective-platformer concept way before Fez and Echochrome dug into it, and I think it's gonna really benefit from the 3DS's 3D.

Aw man that game was great!  It did to me what Portal 2 has done to Brad.  Like, I saw the world differently after playing that game.

CRUSH3D might be the first time a number has been integrated into a game's title in place of a letter in a way that was actually kinda clever. Woo!

Crush is a great puzzle game that gets insanely difficult near the last third (if you're going for the gold trophies).

Yeah I'm kinda impressed frankly.

Crush was another one of those semi-interesting looking PsP games that I never played.

Yay! Never played Crush, but I loved Squish. Also, Crush3D? Genius.

edit: After re-reading the article, I hope they include whatever was in the original game. I'd be willing to pay a little extra for that.

Oh man, I actually remember this.  I think it was one of the first games I remember seeing previewed when I started paying attention to Gamespot and watching their videos.  Takes me back.

I liked crush but the trailer pins this as a port. Maybe if I have the urge to put on the time again.

An absolutely perfect fit for the 3DS, methinks. Although I was always interested in Crush for PSP, I refuse to play that POS system anymore - it's just not worth it. What kind of portable needs a full battery charge to survive the firmware update to get to the (currently unavailable) digital storefront to download games? The battery blows in the PSP-3000; can't hold a charge for 15 minutes. That's ...that's pretty much a deal breaker for a handheld. Especially one that won't let you attempt a firmware update unless it senses a full battery. *sigh*

The 3DS should not be the failure the PSP was - not by a long shot. But I'm sure not eager to buy one, considering it's manufactured by Nintendo. A 3DS Lite is incoming. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me....how many systems have they had now?...17 times - Jesus Christ, I'm never buying a launch-day Nintendo console again!!!

Never heard of this before, but seems like an awesome puzzle game that would work well on the 3DS. Reminds me of the footage that's been shown off of that not-yet-released Fez game, in terms of mechanics.

I remember being so glad that they put Crush up on PSN, I was trying to track it down on UMD and it was pretty much impossible. Brutally hard though
