Start Pre-Ordering Bastion for PC, Then Nab the Soundtrack

"Oh, and it's DRM free!"  What? As much as I love Steam, you can't really call it anything other than a type of DRM.

I would say having your game available among a variety of download services is better for everyone and not making your product exclusive to one service that pigeon holds that user into running their software.

i am still absolutely amazed by how many people think that it is impossible to run games purchased on steam outside of steam. steam does have DRM available, but it is not mandatory and plenty of games do not use it

Bastion is a decent hack and slash but doesn't deserve the insane amount of praise it gets here,
 
The combat is mashy, the narrator gets dull after the first 15 mins, the ground rising up just becomes a chore after the first section, when you try to roll through the levels because the default walk speed is at a snails pace you overtake the generating land and fall off, I have had it happen several times where I will fall off the land and the game will respawn me over a gap so I will fall and fall repeatedly until I either run out of health or the game finally puts me on land  and also there are only a few enemy types and once encountered you quickly learn the pre-determined way to beat the enemy and use that for the rest of the game
 
I bought it on XBLA because of the praise it gets from the Giantbomb guys but I would honestly wait until the steam/XBLA sales

I don't know WHAT you are doing to cause that, but I've played through the game three times now and have never had that happen to me once.

Pre-ordered the Steam version and bought the CD. I'm glad they shipped it to Canada.

Anyone know if there'll be a Steam demo? My PC sucks ass, but I want to try this game before a purchase. If there isn't one/if it doesn't run well, I'll just wait as long as I need to for a PSN version.

Anyway the soundtrack is OK, but it's still a soundtrack; chock full of ambient BGM. The end theme is still pretty great, but it doesn't sound as good outside of the context of the game.

I'll probably pick it up again when it goes on sale on Steam. Played a bit earlier and I gotta say, I had my doubts even with all the coverage, but this game is amazing. The narration is incredible, the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, the music is fantastic, the controls feel great, it really is a very well put together little package. Almost hard to believe it came from such a small team.

I'm gonna wait for the disc-based version of the OST. I really like the album artwork.

Definitely getting Bastion at launch on Steam. And if the soundtrack is good enough, I'll buy the physical copy of the album (if it ships worldwide).

How does "DRM Free" work on Steam? Isn't Steam in and of itself DRM?

I love Greg Kasavin but this game is getting more attention than others because of Greg's history with the core of the GB crew.

Somebody either doesn't understand what DRM is, or what Steamworks is. Hint: requiring Steamworks is a type of DRM.

If there was a higher quality recording available, they would have likely made the FLAC at 24-bit/96-kHz. I don't think there's a reason to release a vinyl version aside from having something large to hold, look at, and smell since the audio quality is likely limited to all-digital CD quality way down to the original sources.

Though it would be pretty cool to have the artwork on a nice square foot slip cover in one's library, I must admit.

I am buying this from Steam as soon as I can. I'm also glad I did not have to wait very long to get Bastion as I do not own a 360.

I'm not really enjoying the game, to be honest, let alone enough to double dip. Bastion on XBLA is more than enough for me. I'm really glad for Greg and the rest of the Supergiant Games team because they're very cool guys, but it's not the game for me.
