Watch Dogs, The Crew Delayed Until 2014

Cuttin' it kind of close for a delay aren't ya, Ubisoft? Bleh, sucks, this was gonna be one of the reasons I was buying a PS4 at launch what the hell.

I mean, I wasn't going to pick Watch Dogs up at launch, but still. It's one of the only Western-style game I've really been kind of excited about. These systems launches are certainly impacted by a loss like this.

I half expected this - thought it looked really ominous that there was no playable demo at EGX last month considering it was supposed to be out so soon. Kinda disappointing that we'll have to wait, but if the delay means it has more of a chance of being as good as it initially looked, then I can happily be patient

I saw this on Engadget and initially thought it was a joke. I am all for taking more time to improve a game, but how long as Ubi known this wasn't ready? I think they just don't want to release along side AC4. Which of course makes sense, but waiting until a month before release?

This is also why I think announcing a release date more than a month or two in advance of going gold is silly.

You just saved me $60 this year, Ubisoft. And cost me $60 next year, Ubisoft. I'm alright with this, but the rest of the year looks pretty boring to me with Watch_Dogs and the Donkey Kong Country sequel pushed back.

As much as this seems to suck , it's nice to see the devs willing to take the hit and release the game when it's actually done. Well more done, this is Ubisoft we're talking about but still it shows they at least have some decency left on the corporate side.

Not only that, but marketed as an official PS4 bundle in EU markets for launch day. It would not surprise me to see Sony exact a penalty by offering up more Ubi games for free for PS3 AND PS4 via PS+' IGC in the coming year (sans payout) in order to balance the scales. That or the PS4 may even get some delayed release exclusives of retail multiplats.

Honestly though, I'd love for Sony to horn in on Ubi and leverage this situation as a way to squeeze an exclusive IP out of them for the PS4, even if that is a smaller title utilizing UbiArt a la Child of Light or Valiant Hearts.

I feel sorry for all the guys that were getting that as a launch game. That seemed like one of the big ones that everyone was really looking forward too (myself included).

On the other hand, if delaying it to April 2014 is going to help in development and make it run better and be more polished, I welcome the pushback.

Either say "we delayed it to make the next gen versions 60 fps" or no sale.

Good. Give the game time to breathe. I can't wait for Watch Dogs, but with so much coming out over the next few months I don't think I would have actually gotten around to it until next Spring anyway. The Crew getting pushed to Summer is smart too. Seems like the kind of game I'd play over the Summer even if it's good but not great.

Watch Dogs will end up being mediocre anyway. I can see it now.

I am now reassured of my decision to forego this generation and instead stick to my PC, or at least wait a year or two. IDK that there is a single game in the first year that I feel like I NEED one of these consoles for. I am no PC only guy either. I have owned a console for every single cycle since the NES. I just think the architectures are so similar anymore that even if one is exclusive, am I really missing out that much not playing it?

Maybe I am just old.

Watchdogs and Assassin's Creed are overrated. I was already planning to wait until roughly mid-2014 to buy a next gen console anyway.

It's for the... "This is the only game we were interested in holding us over until the awesome exclusives start popping up"

This reminds me of the GTA4 delay. Maybe the game ran like total garbage and this was the only way they could fix it.

I wouldn't think that delaying the game would effect any kind of bundle this has with next-gen consoles, just when those bundles are coming out.

I'm glad I didn't preorder a next gen console. I'll get one next year and just upgrade my PC now. There are no interesting games coming out yet.

Good. Now I have more time to finish the insane back catalogue I have.

Cancelled my PS4 pre-order because of this, watch dogs was the only launch game I really wanted so I'm just gonna wait till next year and see how things shape up with the next gen, hopefully Thief will be good and I'll get one in February for that.

I can see why Ubisoft have done this, Watchdogs looks very Assassins Creed and was stopping me even considering getting Black Flag any time soon so they would have had an effect on each other's sales, what I don't understand is how Ubisoft have only just realised this.

Oh well, I guess I'll be playing KZ and BF4 come next month. And, whatever game catches my attention.

I'm looking forward the the game but I'm glad its delayed, after GTA V I feel it will be more fresh to wait a bit. I agree Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs would really cannibalize each other too, I think this is a good move personally.

Well lets hope this means it runs better/more efficiently on everything upon release then. I was getting it on PC anyway.

That's a long delay. Too long for it to be a marketing tactic. They must have had some internal play-tests that didn't go as well as they'd hoped - delay of 2 or even 3 or 4 months is substantial (depending on exactly what they mean by "spring"). Well, I certainly hope the extra time they put into their game makes for a better experience. It usually does.

Sadly, I think I will cancel my PS4 pre-order as well. Not really interested in the other launch titles, would get BF4 for PC. And maybe by that point there will be a sale, if even $10 off to save some extra money.

Or, that money will just go towards a GTX780/R290X/

There goes the one new game I was looking forward to playing on my new PC. I guess I'm buying Battlefield.

Wow. The only 2 games I was getting at launch for the PS4 was this and AC4. I think it is better they wait than release a game even more broken than AC3 was before patches. Your new IP should not be a patch fest. I do hope they have some of the indie games they showed off at E3 ready to go as some of those looked kind of great. More time for downloadable goodness.

@colourful_hippie: so hopefully "polishing" means producing a 1080p 60fps console version. I didn't buy in to the new generation just to play a slightly higher texture quality version of the 360 game.

Amazon sold launch day bundles of the PS4 with Watchdogs. What happens to the dudes that preordered that and theoretically have guaranteed launch day delivery? Do they still have a PS4 reserved, sans Watchdogs?

A Watch Dogs delay this close to release screams bad things.

You think the developers have been playing GTA V and realized how unpolished or lacking their game was?

If it was significantly behind schedule wouldnt they have delayed a bit sooner? I would have to guess its technically finished but someone with final say, isnt happy.

This is a good thing. Gives people something to look forward to passed the first month of new consoles, cause there's not much else out there for awhile as far as big names go I don't think.

Plus, it might have been "AC3 buggy" if they had released it on launch. Better to launch a good game rather than a big disappointment.
