So apparently Atlus, in their New Year's card, wrote that this year they'll announce the game "everyone's been waiting for". Call me crazy, but this doesn't sound like yet another portable Persona remake, but more like finally some more news on Persona 5. It's been more or less common knowledge that Persona 5 has been in the makings for quite some time now, but Atlus haven't really been offering much news or information regarding it. There were even interviews with the developers of Catherine, saying that game was mostly trying out the engine for their upcoming games for PS3 and Xbox360. Or they're just trolling their Persona fans hard with this small story.

Either way, I'm personally eager to (hopefully) hear more about Persona 5 for current gen consoles. Or have my heart broken to hear it being a Vita / 3DS exclusive. What say you?

I really hope its Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for the PSP. I see no reason why they would not release the direct sequel to Innocent Sin now that it's on PSP.

Of course it's probably Persona 5, which I am totally okay with too.

@biospank: Both P4 and Catherine came out in the US about 6 months after the Japanese versions were released, and they were pretty cagey about Catherine before announcing it. I'm not too worried about P4G coming out here, and would not be surprised if it was a holiday release.

Seriously I hope it's Persona 5 and I hope it's as awesome as Persona 4 or better. I hope they expand on the Social Link system, because while the dungeon fighting is alright I really come to Persona for the great characters, much like Bioware games which have good gameplay but it's the characters that make them unique.

It's why I hate Brian Ashcraft specifically. The guy who posts about flashers in Akibahara and Japanese Idols and other crap that has no reason to be on Kotaku other than garnering more hits.

And I have a hard time believing that they actually are gonna announce a new major game or if they are just over hyping some portable/cellphone game.

Well, considering that Personas 1 to 4 were all set in high school and Atlus has other non-Persona Shin Megani Tensei titles that they can set outside a school setting, I'm going to bet Persona 5 will be in high school. Kids in high school fighting demons is kind of its distinction.
