Some games portray cutscenes as portraits of characters talking to each other.
The best way to make sure even the stupidest players know that certain people, places, terms, or concepts in a game are important is to highlight those words in the text with different coloured letters, or through the use of bold, italicized, or all-caps text.
Optional conversation-based cutscenes that are unrelated to the main narrative. These conversations are often humorous or provide insight into the game's setting.
Whether it has voice over or not, text bubbles are a way of reading the dialog that a character on screen is saying and or thinking.
A sub-genre of adventure games, visual novels are a form of interactive fiction that usually have very little in terms of gameplay but often focus more on extensive storytelling, character interactions, decision-making and branching narratives.
