Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Game » consists of 26 releases. Released Mar 02, 2010
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the second installment in this spin-off Battlefield series. It has a more serious campaign and a vastly expanded multiplayer system.
DICE: More people playing PC version than both consoles combined
Well, DICE. Now you look really stupid for not bringing Bad Company 1 to the PC.
Anyways, the fact that PC gamers were pissed of at Activision and looking for revenge, plus EA's clever marketing and swaying of gamers opinions made this game sell. Someone needs to do a case study of this.
On the other hand:

How the hell does MW2 on PC have almost 100 000 players online? You guys fail at boycotting. How does it beat both Counterstrike and Team Fortress 2?
Actually I find those stats to be off. I've seen days where i see up to maybe 150,000 or so MW2 players but it only says it peaked at about 100,000 on the stats." Well, DICE. It's understandable. Battlefield is a PC classic, and has a large fanbase of PC gamers. Plus you've got the people who want to make a statement to Activision & Infinity ward about how to make a multiplayer FPS on PC. Although I doubt that's a huge number of people. It'll mostly be just battlefield fans.
Probably because console gamers have more games to play. Modern PC gamers just have to take what they're given.
According to this its not both consoles combined, just compared to either one individually

Oh really? Do you have any proof do backup your claim?" Probably because console gamers have more games to play. Modern PC gamers just have to take what they're given. "
" Kotaku link Considering the long ass list of full 32 player servers you have to scroll down through to find the servers with open slots, this is very believable. PC gaming is so totally dead. "Congratulations PC gaming, you've had one popular game released on your platform in 2010! Time to celebrate!
Oh, wait, most of those players didn't actually buy the game.....nevermind.
" @Andorski said:Or maybe it's because those games are you know, great." How the hell is the original Counterstrike the third most played game on Steam?? "Retro is trendy I guess. I see some people still playing freaking Deus Ex and Half-Life. Or perhaps also because you require little but dirt to run the original CS. "
Obviously, Battlefield was made for the PC.
And besides, For some reason most console gamers are STILL playing that piece of shit modern warfare 2 over anything else.
I guess all of those players who pirated magically got connected to the EA servers...AMAZING." @Buccura said:

By the way, you sound like an upset console fanboy.
I was not going to chime in on this topic, seeming as I am for the most part a console first gamer. However,My fellow console gamers are acting immature and somehow getting offended by a game on PC doing well. I for one I`m glad, if the PC market steps it up then the consoles will have to step it up one more time like they had to in the past. Oh ya before I forget the dumb ass people who are talking about piracy. I highly doubt these numbers figure into unofficial cracked servers.

" name one other good COMPETITIVE fps released recently and i prefer css but i guess u could call that nostalgia too... "Team Fortress 2 - As competitive as squad based FPS games get, and it still gets updates.
And since I'm one of the few who loved this game... Shadowrun. It took Counterstrike's strcture and added magic to it. It was way better than all the Warcraft CS mods out there.

Kotaku borked this one. Numbers is hard. There are more PC players than either 360 players OR PS3 players, but 360 and PS3 combined beat PC.
This is a bit surprising for me. Dragon Age was a game that was made with PC gaming in mind, but the 360 port was the leading SKU in terms of sales.
It is nice to see PC gaming get a good shot in the arm. Maybe people who don't play on PC can stop calling it a dead gaming platform now?
All league play for CounterStrike is based around the original. CS: Source is gaining ground but it will be a long while before it's a significant part of the competitive league." @Andorski said:

Congratulations, console gamers. You've managed to avoid a game which requires skill in place of a game like MW2 which is all about spray n pray and hiding behind invincible furniture.
The game stats are only for paid product. EA can't track hacked servers or pirated games. Also for life of me I don't know why you console only gamers always blame piracy on the PC. If there are more console games being produced and more consoles sold vs gaming PCs then it stands to reason that there is more console game piracy, especially on XBOX 360 and Wii, than the total of pirated games on PC. All it would take is a visit to any large piracy site to see that this is true, no matter how many XBOX 360s have been banned from Live. Banned 360 consoles can still play pirated games and over LAN, just not online via LIVE, so what's actually stopping the console pirates? Nothing, that's what. At least PC pirates have by and large been accustomed to the idea that their pirated games will not play on legitimately run servers and services, which often leads to sales of the non pirated versions. I know I'll hear you say "bbb...but the PS3 isn't pirated!". It is supposedly possible now and as Sony do not manage the online component of their system's games (that's up to each publisher to manage), it could well be more of a victim of piracy in future.
In my case. I tried to buy Battlefield BC2. But Steam told me I already owned it - and they were right? BC2 was in my library already, waiting to be installed.
EDIT: Steam Beta problem? or... *checks sheets* ... What did I do last night?
Ha HA. Don't be mad console gamers. just because we get a version that looks, runs, and plays superior 90% of the time.
Yup, and I'm loving it. Just unlocked the last upgrade for my sniper class. I'm disappointed with it so far, i cant seem to hit a dam thing with it for some reason. It's really pissing me off since it's supposed to be the most powerful gun, and a one shoot one kill gun too. Guess i will go back to medic. I hate the medics guns, but i love running around defibbing people and throwing down med packs when i see people hunkered down in spots.
This kind of shocks me.
I'm glad, but still, crazy. I mean, CoD was started on the PC and you don't see it getting less sells on the consoles.
Wonder how many are legit copies.
- No penetration into the console market that was worth a damn, and since the consoles were leading the charge, they needed some focus on that
- PC piracy rates are skyrocketed, so they wanted to work out all their backend stuff to prevent as much of it as possible
- Bad Company was a very different kind of experience than the core Battlefield franchise, and PC fans wouldn't have bothered with the game
- Frostbite tech pushes hardware pretty hard, and hardware at the time for PCs was still having trouble with Crysis...so they probably wanted to wait until specs were up enough to get a decent minimum spec setting for larger PC sales
All in all, it was a damn smart move for them to wait on putting this franchise on the PC. Even then, there are still tons of issues going on with the PC version, but this is also the first time that Frostbite is showing up on the PC for the public, so I would hope that most die-hard BF fans that are playing this will keep that in mind and bitch a little less about DICE trying to take the time to fix those issues (like screen tearing, physics foul-ups, etc).
@EvolutionX0: Modern Warfare, as a franchise, is something that does many things well to sell itself:
- A strong single player narrative (which is something that IW has always done well...even if it has gotten a bit ridiculous)
- "Cool" lingo like "Oscar Mike", "stay frosty", etc
- Massive hype around a game that penetrated the console market in unexpectedly high numbers
- Promoting the idea of showing that you smoke weed (because let's face it, a lot of MW players are tokers)
And in the end, Modern Warfare 2 isn't a bad game at all. It's actually more of a run 'n' gun than CoD4's campfest was. However, the downfall is that Bobby Kotick runs Activision, and the game still has a million glitches in it.
" I can see this, the Battlefield name was built on the PC. "Yeah is the PC version getting more players that surprising?

And posts like this make me realize how fucking idiotic people can be.
On one hand, you've got people who're obviously talking out their ass, and then you've got people who make it sound like anyone that plays video games on a Personal Computer has his nose really far up his ass cheeks and sniffs vigourously at his own farts.
You can't play BFBC2 online unless you play on a pirated server, which DICE have taken actions towards preventing by not allowing you to host your own server, instead you buy one off of DICE's partner sites. The numbers they've tracked have got to be from decent sources, which means i don't believe they count 'pirated copies'.
And Kotaku fucked up aswell, it beats EITHER platform, but combined they still outweigh it and that's not suprising at all.
I haven't had much of a chance to play that game, mostly with me being a bit distracted, but i did try to play earlier tonight, and i got a bunch of messaged saying 'can't connect' or 'error connecting to EA servers' which leads me to believe they have quite a few issues with the online currently, and i'm hoping they get fixed.
So....To stay on topic for the most part, i'm glad DICE are doing well on PC, just goes to show that if you treat your fanbase with some respect, it'll come around.
"I for one I`m glad, if the PC market steps it up then the consoles will have to step it up one more time like they had to in the past. "A console gamer that actually gets it! *high fives*
Also, I'm not sure I believe the lack of surprise from most people here. I for one am surprised.
