    According to the mythology of the modern Battlestar Galactica TV series, Battlestar Galactica was one of the first twelve Battlestars built. Galactica survived the Cylon attack on Caprica due to its aging systems not being networked, making it invulnerable to Cylon infiltration programs. Battlestar Galactica is over 50 years old and was entering decommissioning as the Cylon attack started. Battlestar Galactica  is often refererred to as either "Big G", or "The Bucket".
