BigWorld: Citizen Zero (later just called Citizen Zero) was an action-oriented MMO being developed by Australian developer Micro Forté. The game was first announced for PC and previewed in early 2000, before vanishing for several years. The game re-emerged at GDC 2004, having moved to Xbox. The game failed to release for several more years and was officially cancelled on February 28, 2007, with Micro Forté announcing they had begun development on a spy-themed MMO in mid-2006.
The original design for the game had a near-future setting, with three playable races - cyborg, alien and human - functioning legal and economic systems, and a focus on story rather than gaining experience. It was set on an ex-'prison planet' called Neo-Eden, whose history had been lost after a global riot that had expelled the guards and erased the citizens' memories. It was to feature up to 50,000 players in the same 'shard' (with the developer comparing it to Everquest's limit of 2000, and originally claiming up to 500,000). By 2004, the game's setting had advanced to 2000 years in the future, on a penal colony called Typhron that had become isolated from Earth.
