BioShock, Awesome
As an unexperienced gamer, my only games being Super Mario and a random assortment of handheld games, BioShock opened a whole new world for me. I always loved the artistry and narrative in games but was never really inspired to play them until I saw my best friend playing BioShock.
Perhaps, I was mesmerized by the Big Daddy or the art deco style but it was the political ideas behind the game that really caught my attention. The city of Rapture was the tragic character in this work of art.
Yes, BioShock is most definitely a work of art. The city barely flourished before it was snuffed out by its selfish visionary. Playing as Jack makes you realize that though you may be given options you are never really free to make your own decisions. You see the city and game; the way the characters and the developers want you to see it. You do not have free will or choice ever except when it comes to playing it.
The game is definitely worth a play through or four. Achievements are always awesome, but it's the wealth of information in the details and in the audio diaries that is worth noticing and listening to.
