One thing about bloodborne that disappointed me was the lack of a good pre rendered intro cinematic. Every other souls game has one and they were all awesome, so I was sad to see its exclusion. Come to find out, by randomly idling in the menu for a minute, there freaking is one. The cinematic I longed for!

Yeah, not that big of a deal, but I'm glad it's there. Not as good as previous ones, but still awesome. I do find it weird that they present it like they do and didn't just make it play when the game starts up.

Also, is there a term for this kind of thing? A cinematic that plays when you idle in the menu? I was trying to think of one for the title, but I'm drawing a blank.

It's the same concept as an attract mode. Many arcade games only displayed their story beats this way.

@hatking: I was wary of calling it that because attract mode usually refers to gameplay footage. I guess this kind of falls into that category, but to me it isn't the same thing.

@rongalaxy: I was wondering that too, but I don't know if there's actually a distinction. I mean, if you think about an attract mode just being a thing to attract people to play a game, then a pre-rendered cinematic could very well fit into that category.

@rongalaxy: The intro cinematic is just straight-up the first trailer for the game from E3 2014.

I was shocked as well when I saw it for the first time while Vinny and Alex were streaming the game and it idled for a bit. At that point in time I was halfway through NG+ and here is this big cinematic I haven't even seen before. Nutz.

Yeah saw this a couple days ago when I started the game and went upstairs to make myself some food, could hear the music change for upstairs and came downstairs to a really nice cgi villager.

I didn't know there was one either but I had the Bloodborne menu idling in the background while I browsed the forum. And as I read your post the cinematic started.
