Overview
Bot Land is an online strategy game developed and published digitally by Xtonomous LLC. It is developed live on Twitch by Adam13531.
Gameplay
Players create bots using an assortment of hardware and cosmetic items. Bots can optionally be given scripts written in either Blockly or JavaScript. Scripts allow players to customize exactly how their bots will behave during battle. Without a script, bots will use default behavior that may be sub-optimal.
Battles take place in an arena and involve both an attacker and a defender. The defender is charged with protecting their CPU, a stationary structure unable to perform any actions. Other than bots, defenders also have access to chips, which are ancillary structures that confer various benefits. The only way a defender can lose a battle is if their CPU is destroyed; losing all of their bots or chips will not necessarily result in an overall defeat.
Due to the automated nature of Bot Land, defenders are not present during a game. Instead, the only active player is the attacker. Attackers are given three phases to destroy the defender's CPU using bots. Each phase lasts until either the attacker wins or the CPU is destroyed. Any damage dealt to the defender's bots, chips, and CPU persists to later phases.
In general, the defender inherently has power in numbers given that they have to set up their defense ahead of time. This power imbalance is offset by the attacker's ability to react to what the defender has set up.
