My pals and I have officially declared October "Castlevania Marathon Month". We try and play through as many Castlevania games as we can get our hands on before the 31st. So which are you playing at the moment?
I'm currently working through Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow while at work. And SotN, Chronicles, and Legacy of Darkness at home.
Castlevania
The Castlevania franchises chronicles the ongoing fight against Count Dracula by the Belmont family and their allies. To this day, Dracula continues to pose a threat to the world.
Which Castlevanias are you during Castlevania Month?
Since I haven't played Order of Ecclesia yet despite owning it, I may join your quest and play that one. :P
I've just about played a majority of them but I might replay SoTN for the sixth time when I get the chance.
I could try to play Order of Ecclesia, only to get frustrated and give up when I reach one of the game's brutally hard bosses. Or, I could play Symphony of the Night, which is a far better game.

"I honestly don't know why people complain about the boss difficulty in that game. Yes, they're not easy, but when I ran into trouble, I did some leveling, got some better gear and tried different glyphs.
" @ArbitraryWater said:Yeah, even with grinding the bosses in OoE are more than capable of taking your health down in only a few hits, and when those attacks cover half the fucking screen no fun is had." Ecclesia was tough but I wasn't truly overwhelmed until Dracula, and then hard mode handed my ass to me. I dislike the old Castlevanias because the jumping and stair climbing mechanics make them unnecessarily hard, but the newer Metroidvania ones tend to be too easy. Ecclesia was a good balance.
Dawn of Sorrow was pretty had too at times.
" @ArbitraryWater: That one I haven't played. Maybe I should try it for Castlevania month! Dawn of Sorrow was pretty had too at times. "Dawn of Sorrow was fun until I got to the ends of the boss fights. Having to win battles by drawing the seals on the screen got aggravating as the game went on.
A few weeks ago I bought the XBLA version of SotN and 200/200'd the achievements.
It was just as much fun as I remember it. :D
The difficulty on Ecclesia is one of my favorite things. Mostly because it's an honest difficulty. It's not hard for off screen enemies pot-shotting you or a super crappy camera. It's just hard, and can be over come by practice.
At Dracula's Castle in OoE now. It's kind of slaughtering my plans for the others this month. Game is just too awesome IMO.
@ ArbitraryWater: Yes, Circle of the Moon is really freaking hard. lol
I'm tryin for all the achievements on the 360 SotN version, as well as going through hard mode on OoE.........wow. At some point I wanna sit down and grind through Castlevania III and wondering if I should go through Curse of Darkness.
I'm currently going through Harmony of Dissonance, and I'm so lost. I hope I eventually stumble onto what I'm supposed to be doing. This is my first Metroidvania.
Nice, a Castlevania thread. One of my favorite videogame genres of all time hehe!! Well, when I get into the Castlevania mode, the ones I hit up and slay my way through are:
1.) Symphony of the Night
2.) Circle of the Moon
3.) Aria of Sorrow
4.) Dawn of Sorrow
Sad to say but I have yet to play Order of Ecclesia. :(
" I just beat my first Castlevania game, Super Castlevania IV. That was a bitch to beat! "In my opinion the best. I bought this when it first came out back in like 92, and I can't even count how many times I have gone through and beaten it in one sitting. One of my favorite games of all time.
" @Fallen189 said:I may or may be playing the PS1 version on CFW." Playing SOTN on my PSP at the moment. Just got form of mist. Hard game. "I've been pondering picking up Dracula X Chronicles. How long does it take to unlock Symphony of the Night, out of curiosity? "
Mostly may.
Might replay Portrait of Ruin, or I might go ahead and play the first one through just for kicks.
Buying Order of Ecclesia ain't out of the question, either.

It doesnt take long. It's a secret item I think halfway though the game that I had to lookup to find. If you're just looking for SOTN the PSN has it for 15$ I think. The DXC version of Symphony has 2 "new" familiars and a Maria mode, but sadly its STILL not the saturn version of the game.
And more people need judgement >.> lol
