Charles Oakley is a retired power forward/center from Virginia Union Univeristy who played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards, and Houston Rockets.
Oakley was born in Cleveland, Ohio and went to Virginia Union University. He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1985, but his draft rights were sent to the Chicago Bulls. He had a good rookie season and earned all-rookie honors. On June 27, 1988 he was traded to the New York Knicks, where he would stay for ten years. Most of those years he would average 10.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game or better.
On June 25, 1998 he was traded to the Toronto Raptors. On July 18, 2001 he was traded to the Chicago Bulls. On October 11, 2002 he signed as a free agent with the Washington Wizards. On March 18, 2004 he signed a ten-day contract with the Houston Rockets and would later sign a second ten-day contract. He finished his career with over 12,000 rebounds and was an All-Star in 1994.
