Did anyone else realize that Child of Light watermarks screenshots you take on the PS4 with a Ubisoft logo in the bottom right hand corner?

I really hope this isn't a trend going forward, because I think it really sucks. How do you feel about it?

What do you use the screenshots for that this bothers you so much? I agree it's kind of dumb but a little bit of photoshop and that's easily gone :).

Using for wallpaper or something? Game is gorgeous.

I can if someone wanted me to... patch tool is quite easy to use. Or just crop it out. Whatever floats ur boat.

And yeah, it's definitely stupid. I can understand watermarks or signatures for artwork or something, but this kinda thing is really dumb. I guess I just don't at all understand why it's necessary to watermark video game screenshots. At least it's not that intrusive or distracting, though. I've seen some pretty obnoxious watermarks. :P

It probably makes business sense (though I'm no small business man) to brand the screenshots for a sharing feature. The people being shared to can then find the game more easily if it interests them. Don't want to make it difficult for people to give you money!

FFXHD does the same thing on the Vita. Except it's a bunch of ugly trademarks and all rights reserved crap.

That sucks, also cannot believe people think this game looks bad I haven't played but that screenshot is beautiful, "unfinished" my ass that style is used to great effect here.

Done! Highlight the logo, feather the selection and then content aware fill. Takes a minute.

@mikkaq: I suppose it's fine, given the painterly art style, but there's definitely a lot of detail loss there.

I see nothing wrong with a watermark in the corner. We, as the player of these games, didn't make the art. So why not give some tiny bit of credit where it is due?

Would you think it was fair if I took a photo, image from someone else made it into tee-shirts or put it up on my website? How do you think GB would feel if I did that? If you didn't make it, then have some class, and allow for those that did make it to have some credit...that is just being fair.

Yeah I cheated.... if watermarking becomes a trend, then it'll get annoying but at least this game is easily workable due to it's style.

@monkeyking1969: So if I take a picture downtown, should I credit the architects of all the buildings in my photograph? That'd be a big-ass watermark.

@steadyingmeat: Well on PC there's no built in screenshot function, steam just captures whats on screen, so they would have to have the watermark there ALWAYS

This doesn't feel like a problem to me. What I think is worse is when a video game (Hello Kotaku, you trashy ass site!) related website watermarks screenshots that they didn't take or that aren't exclusive to their sites.

If they're going to put a watermark on the screenshot, it should at least be the game's title or logo. If I don't recognize the game, how is ubisoft's logo going to help me?

Square does this as well with FFXIV. This is a screen I took last night. Lower left hand corner you can see the legal rights mumbo jumbo.

Dead Nation on the PS4 does it as well. I guess its just something the devs/publishers can decide to add in to their games. And I don't see a problem with it to be honest. It is their work after all. All we do is push a button at the right time.

@monkeyking1969: Obviously there is something wrong with profiting from someone else's work without at least giving credit, I am not saying otherwise. I don't plan to sell these screenshots or claim the work as my own. When I take a screenshot, it's because I want a still of what's occurring onscreen. Placing stupid copyright information or a logo detracts from the artistic beauty, in my opinion.

Just take a screenshot that makes their company look really bad, then we will see how long the watermark lasts. Are there any Ubisoft games that let you name your character? Hmm.

Not gonna lie, I had to look at that picture for a minute to even see the watermark. If they're that subtle, I don't really care. Think of it as... an artist's signature, I guess. Or the seal of approval.

All the Dirt games did it

Dragon's Dogma does this too, on PS3 at least. So did MAG.
