Cristie Kerr started playing golf when she was just eight years old. Her amateur career was very successful with winning the 1994 Junior Orange Bowl Internation Golf Championship and was also the 1995 American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. She participated in the Curtis Cup in 1996.
Kerr graduated from Miami Sunset High School in West Kendall, Florida.
In 1996, Kerr turned professional and played on the Futures Tour and the Players West Tour. Her first pro victory was at the Ironwood Futures Classic of her rookie year. Later that year she tied for 6th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Although her LPGA career was off to a slow start, in 2002 she was abole to win for the first time at the Longs Drugs Challenge. By 2004 she was a leading player on the tour, with 3 tournament victories and a fifth place finish on the money list. She's won two tournaments in '05 finishing third on the money list. In 2007, Kerr won the United States Women's Open Championship, her first major championship.
