    Overview

ChromaGun is a single player first person puzzler created by Pixel Maniacs for PC, Mac and Linux. The player uses the eponymous ChromaGun, a weapon capable of firing red, blue and yellow paint-pellets, to colorize walls and floating spherical droids. These WorkerDroids are drawn to walls of the same color. Using that mechanic, the player has to solve the test chambers by cleverly placing the droids on triggers to open doors, deadly electrified tiles or other elements.

    Story

ChromaGun takes is set in an underground laboratory complex run by ChromaTec, a paint-manufacturer that luckily landed a military contract to develop a new paint-based weapon. The player presumably controls a homeless person offered $10 for participation in the testing of the ChromaGun. An omniscient snarky narrator accompanies the player throughout the testing track.

    Reception & References to Portal

ChromaGun has received favourable reviews and is listed as 'Very Positive' on Steam with 100% positive reviews. Almost all reviewers compared ChromaGun to Valve's Portal, which ChromaGun clearly renders homage to. With its clean design, chamber-based environmental puzzles and its snarky narrator, ChromaGun advertises the fact that it draws much of its inspiration from Portal. There is even a hidden cake in one of the test chambers.

    Development

ChromaGun was created in Unity during the Ludum Dare game jam 2015. It was initially released for iOS, then refined and ported to PC, Mac and Linux in February 2016. ChromaGun marks the debut release for German indie studio Pixel Maniacs. ChromaGun will be released for PS4 and Xbox One on August 22 and 23, respectively.
