Free radical Closes its doors
Terrible News
The guys who helped make Goldeneye and made Timesplitters are gone...so sad
Yeah I read on Joystiq that they met in a hotel just down the road for a "final company meeting"
Sucks dude
HAZE was in development for what? 4 and half years?
It sold under 400,000 units
Imagine over the course of ALL that time how much money was sucked up!
And BAM....the game flops hard
This isn't like a publisher dying (like when Sierra went under)
Sinse these guys are actually developers...TS4 is as good as dead
I don't want it that way...but you gotta accept it
Even if a fraction of the old staff started up their own studio and kept the rights, TS4 wiill be so far off it's not even funny
"Sigh... This is not good news, the Timesplitters series was my favourite FPS for a long time, I even bought Haze."
Im sorry to hear that last bit
Sucks but it shows that every game that a developer puts out has to be successful otherwise it could mean the entire studio closing. We have seen this with Midway Austin, they made Blacksite Area 51 last year and now they are gone. So any bombs this year could mean possible closures next year. Luckily some of the sort of "low performers" are already working on games like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge teams. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams condense, especially the people behind Mercenaries 2. I know they are working on the Lord of the Rings Conquest, but if that isn't a hit I am sure we will see something bad happen. Hopefully with Take Two opening some devs in UK, they will recruit some over. Would love to see a sort of Rockstar take on a 007 created brand with the Goldeneye guys.
"Terrible NewsYeah, it probably has to do with the economy as well as Haze not doing so well sales wise.

Damn. That's sad. Their writer, Rob Yescombe is one of the funniest dudes ever. I've heard/watched 2 interviews with him on Gamespot UK (one of which ended with him wrestling with the interviewer) and they were absolutely hilarious. I hope he (and the rest of the dudes there) find new work soon.
EDIT: This pic of rob pretty much sums him up:
look, the developer still has hope it has only closed while they review their financial position, it's not dead althogh that is a posability for the coming months.
as for timesplitters 4, if free-radical dose close forever it will move to a new company from the same founders as free radical (pumpkin beach)
http://godofgod.co.uk/frd/ cheack this out for ferther developments about free radical. it's quite a good fan-site also new concept art for ts4
