Hopefully that title turns into something else cause Deep Down sounds like a bad porn movie.

I know it's still in development but did anyone else notice those icons in the bottom left screen that were being cycled through? You had the sword/shield bottle etc. I was getting kind of a Dragon's Lair vibe that you probably select one of those icons in different situations and the game just does the rest for you.

I dunno if I agree with you on the name. I see a medieval-looking knight, a massive dragon, and the title deep down then I immediately think of a dungeon crawler.

I am both a graphics whore, a capcom fan, and a dungeon crawler fan so this is the game in the presentation that appealed to me the most. In the end though, there was next to no information available, so I will withhold my judgement till later.

Edit: The double D's in the title also make me think of Dragons Dogma.

All I could think of was the Capcom meeting where someone said "hey guys, that Dark Souls thing seems to be kind of popular."

Haha, I felt the same. For a minute I thought it was first person. Like this is the hybrid child of Dark Souls/Skyrim.

Capcom sure like their vague fantasy settings. This, monster hunter and Dragons Dogma.

They clearly need to rename it to "Deep, Deep Down". Mike Patton, ladies and menfolk.

I gotta' give you kudos for that; it ain't a wholly bad idea, at all. It is to be "set in the Dragon's Dogma world", which suggests that it'll be something else than a direct sequal. Could also just be that they're in alpha and that said UI is very likely to change, as UIs are prone to do over the development cycle.

That said, from a little scrounging that I've done, there's been mention of that the game is going to include some level social interaction where you'll be able to invite other players into your world for a "raid". Keeping that in mind, I find it very difficult to imagine how they'd pull off a Dragon's Lair type of game with a number of players involved in the experience at once. If they did, it'd be a unique experience in it's own right, one I find could potentially be more interesting than another hack & slash. Just think of the story potential. We'll have to wait for E3 to find out. (This year's gonna' be good.)

In the end, this was a show-case for an engine that they'll be sure to feature in many games, as capcom are wont to do, so you can be sure that Dragon's Dogma 2 will most likely run on the same engine and look similairly impressive.

Also, THAT GLOWING/MELTING SHIELD! That is awesome.

@do_the_manta_ray that melting shield at the end was really cool looking.

@maskedarcstrike Those little icons in the corner annoyed the hell out of me the entirety of that demo.

The icons only exist as Capcom's way of saying "THIS IS A GAME GUYS TOTALLY NOT PRE-RENDERED YUP."

The only new thing that really interested me to be honest. Most likely a Dragon's Dogma sequel which could be pretty awesome.

First thing I thought about. Dragon's Dogma is a weird one for me, since I hated huge parts of that game but still would like to see a sequel.

Exactly. There is no way that was gameplay footage — no one even said that it was, everyone is just assuming. If they aren't even bothering to lie about it, I think it's safe to assume that was a target render. Looks amazing though.

I think a lot of people forget how insanely good Capcom actually are at creating game engines, after MT Frameworks fantastic implementation on PC, the current gen of consoles (and the Vita) I expected nothing less than fantastic and that's what this thing looked.

Now give me New Darkstalkers, Capcom vs. SNK 3, Street Fighter V and Marvel vs. Capcom 4 on whatever engine this thing is running.

I'm gonna chalk it up to this current gen having been so long, but I hope they get the optimization down well before any demos are playable. Dragon's Dogma and RE6 suffered a hell of a lot (for me) from massive screen tearing. This game looks amazing and if it is the DD team, I really hope that isn't an issue.

I really like the name Deep Down, and most of the response to the name have been pretty positive, so I hope they keep it.

but Ono did say it was running in real time on the PS4. No this wasn't game play, more like some in engine cut-scenes mixed with some game play looking in engine cut-scenes thrown in to say this is what playing might look like. Not a target render, but also not yet a game. The final fantasy video was a target render though.

@happypup70: Actually, the Square Enix presentation showed the real-time tech demo (that they showed like 6 months ago) was capable of running on the PS4 (at what looked like 60fps). While it's definitely not a game, it wasn't a target render(Which is CG FMV, usually), just a real time engine/tech demo rendering on a dev kit or equivilent hardware.

Edit: Holy crap was that a long run on sentence.

Double Edit: Also, while I originally thought Square really had no reason to be there, after thinking about it a bit, what they showed was no different than a combination of what David Cage and Ubisoft showed. Something shown previously (Watch dogs), that was just a tech demo (Old man head from David Cage, and or the demo shown by Capcom), but was now being shown was capable of running on the PS4.

    Yeah totally.

I am wondering if it wasn't pretty much in engine though. The Sucker Punch guys said their Second Son demo was just how the game will look, they just used cinematic camera angles for the trailer. Hopefully that was what was going on here? The animation looked custom, but lets just hope it's in engine.

Either way, I am really looking forward to a next gen Dragons Dogma. The base is excellent and very ready to be expanded upon.

@eujin: I rewatched that section and you are totally right, I just picked up on him saying that this was the level of quality they are targeting for next generation consoles. This made me think target render, but he did say it was in engine real time at the beginning.
