Dragon Age: Origins
Game » consists of 20 releases. Released Nov 03, 2009
Dragon Age: Origins is an epic fantasy role-playing game featuring a rich story, personality-driven characters, and tactical, bloody combat. It is considered a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series.
Do you have to become a Grey Warden?
I don't want to be one. I played city elf and dalish elf origins and they both ended in me going to Grey Warden city with Duncan.
I'm pretty the whole point of the game is to become a Grey Warden and go on countless adventures. Why would you want to refuse it anyways? What would there be to do?
"well putWell the entire game is about being a Grey Warden. If you didn't become a Grey Warden it'd be a bit like playing a version of Halo 3 where John never fought in the Human-Covenant War, he just sat at home eating pizza and watching TV all day.
"
In any of the origin stories, there's a reason you're extradited as a Grey Warden. The only two I've played: city elf and mage, it's pretty much be executed or join. If you'd have chosen not to become a Warden during the ceremony, you'd have been killed. The other option would be running from Duncan somewhere between home and Ostagar, but that would pretty much mean that you wouldn't be around to build an army, thus the darkspawn would take over the surface, thus you'd be dead anyway.
Besides, there has to be a limit on path divergence and choices in games, otherwise no game would ever make release.
Okay I started a new game as a dwarf commoner and I am enjoying the origins story way more then the elf stories, I actually want to become a grey warden now.
Its indeed a bit ironic that in a game celebrated for its choices, your forced into the most important one.
Yep...Just like real Life.... and often....marriage.

"You absolutely are not forced to become a Grey Warden. You can stop playing before he conscripts you. That's totally your choice as a player, left up to you by the developers. You can also die at any point in the game and just believe that is the ending to your character. Is the issue just that you want to see a custom Game Over screen before you shut the game off?
Having said that, it would have been great to have an RT button press like in Mass Effect II that I could slap Duncan before he forces you to drink from that cup.
"I'd play that. There could be a pizza eating minigame, a channel changing minigame, a tip the delivery man minigame ... the possibilities are endless.Well the entire game is about being a Grey Warden. " If you stop playing before you meet Duncan you'll never become a Grey Warden. "Dude you should write up a guide on how to do that. Sounds pretty challenging.
" Isn't it funny after you see one guy die, and another die from being a coward that you instantly drink the blood? My character must have been thirsty. I was totally expecting to live after that. It would be great if they had a game over screen, and then said, "just kidding." "I don't often laugh out loud when I type LOL, but you made the cut.

" @Vaile said:" No. But if you don't then the Archdemon steps on you in a cutscene. "Surely you lie? "
Sure.
" @Nictel said:No need for name calling. The guy has a point." If you stop playing before you meet Duncan you'll never become a Grey Warden. "asshole "

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play." If you stop playing before you meet Duncan you'll never become a Grey Warden. "
@sadaiyappan: theres an idea... why not just smash the cd in peaces so that the they or the darkspawners will never spawn again from that cd. :D

How is it not relevant?

You bumped a three year old topic to say that?
@believer258: I'll be honest, I'm getting really sick of these necros. At first, they reminded me of 3 to 4 year old classic Giant Bomb. Now they're just bumping random threads with no rhyme nor reason.
