The demo was fun, but the combat seemed a bit too hack and slash for me. I'm debating pre ordering it, as I would love for a new Capcom IP to prosper. I also have a huge backlog of games. Why do you do this to me Capcom?
Dragon's Dogma
Game » consists of 6 releases. Released May 22, 2012
Capcom makes an ambitious undertaking with this 2012 Open World Action-RPG.
Who has pre ordered this?
I don't pre-order games. I'll probably buy it on the 25th. I'll definitely buy it if my job interview on Tuesday goes well.
I ordered this. Why not? It looks pretty good and I like the grabbing mechanics. Getting SotC vibes while fighting a cool monster (I feel like an awesome touch of Monster Hunter stylization is going on here) in an open RPG world sounds pretty damned great! I do hope that the *good* Monster Hunter feelings will persist. Also, Berserk! Yes! YES!
i did. seemed like a pretty good bet. the few reviews out so far seem pretty positive, so i guess that is good. looks like the type of game that is right up my alley. unfortunately, I am balls deep in Diablo III right now (and assume i will be for at least another couple of weeks, based upon how much i am digging it so far) so i guess preordering Dragon's Dogma wasn't really essential.
I have it preordered but thanks to the good old 25th of May (a Friday) release date for Australia I will most likely receive it on the 30th.
God I am ridiculously jealous of the people on NeoGAF who have it already!
I preordered.

Just wondering, what's wrong with hack and slash combat?
Just gonna buy it, no need to preorder, because day oen I'm just going to have it. I only preorder games if I think I'd FORGET to buy it.
Preordered both versions because I am dumb. The combat in the demo was hack and slash, in the real game it won't be. There will be alot more strategy to it than you think.
PS: The game already has a confirmed half a million pre orders in Japan as of like two days ago. So apparently pre ordering the thing is a pretty popular idea somewhere at least.
Pre=ordered this game months ago. As soon as I saw the first gameplay video I was sold on this game. I played the demo and that just reinforced my belief that Dragon's Dogma would be something special.
I enjoyed the demo a lot, although I think if they had shown off more of the exploration/city/RPG stuff, people would have been more interested.
I won't be pre-ordering or buying on release though, I just have no money to spare for games at the moment. I could also see Capcom milking it to Monster Hunter/Street Fighter proportions.
@Cubidog1: The strategy is in which attacks you use and when, I think. There are quite a few, each applicable in different ways.
Not to mention how you set up your allies, that's highly tactical.

It depends on if the PS3 version is garbage performance wise compared to the 360 one.
Apparently it's the 360 version whose performance is garbage. According to a review: "Big fights cause slowdown that can freeze the screen for seconds at a time on the Xbox 360 version. Dragon’s Dogma runs much better on the PlayStation 3 than on the 360, with a smoother frame rate and fewer streaming problems…"
Ive watched a few videos by OXM and they use the 360 version and have some nice battles and no issues.@ahaisthisourchance said:

Yeah I've watched close to 2 hours of gameplay on the 360 and not seen any issues either.
Pre-ordered this over a month ago and have been anticipating it since it's announcement. Would love for this game to do well as it seems like an OP with legs and in my oppinion you can never have too many great open-world RPGs floating around, particularly ones with awesome combat systems.
I might give it a go after they patch the hell out of it for the 360. Already got a lot of RPGs that need to be played and this game don't look anything special.

Reviews were all made using and older review build of the game. The retail product has more touch ups and lots of graphical features added in that fix all those issues the reviewers talk about. I love how they never mention they are using a review copy too when they know for a fact it isn't the retail version. Yes I know people who actually own both versions of the game, yes they have told me they have never seen any of the issues reviewers are talking about.

It's IGN remember, take what they say with a pinch of salt.

It is not just them, I have seen lots of reviews say they were taking off points for XYZ visual bug that doesn't happen in the retail version. Like the frame tearing on the 360, it is just not there in the retail version or is very very minimal. However almost everyone who reviews the 360 version mentions it knowing full well they have a review version and it is fixed in the final.

To be fair, the reviewers can't exactly just take Capcom's word on whether certain visual bugs and things of the like are corrected in the final version or not. I don't think bringing up that they're playing a review build would be bad, but they're just reviewing what's been given to them.
