After years of litigation, Tim Langdell, the founder of Edge Games, has lost his "Edge" trademark. A petition by DICE and EA finally made it through the workings of the U.S. legal system and the "Edge" trademark has been cancelled. Langdell has previously targeted companies that have used the word "edge" in their games. Prime targets for litigation include DICE and EA, the makers or Mirror's Edge, and Namco, the makers of Soul Edge. DICE and EA were absolved of trademark infringement, which led to the petition that stripped Langdell of his trademark.
I understand the need for trademark and copyright protections, but Langdell's litigation quests appeared to be nothing more than cash-grabs. It didn't help that the trademark itself was incredibly nebulous. I am glad to see that the trademark has been cancelled. Et tu?
