I don't know what to make of it, nothing is outright offensive like say Vanille, but I kind of wish that they had gone the FF12 route seeing as the feel of the game is supposed to be of Shakespearean bent.
Game » consists of 26 releases. Released Nov 29, 2016
The Japanese dub is better than the English dub, plain and simple.
That being said, the English actors get the job done and I predict I'll get used to them after an hour of actually playing the game. Of course, if there's an option for Japanese voices with English subtitles, I'll pick that in a heartbeat.
I dunno, it seems good enough. I mean, not fantastic, but nowhere near bad enough for it to bother me.
Also, the dialog that I heard is way, way better than anything in those FFXIII Lightning Returns trailers. I don't think I winced in pain even once.
Shakespearean bent.
This trailer seems more like a road trip set in a Final Fantasy-esque world, wouldn't a "Shakespearean" bent (side note: FFXII's dialog is not Shakespearean at all) be pretty out of place?
@believer258: The creators stated that the story is inspired by Shakespeare and early (vs 13) trailers ended with a quotation from Hamlet.
My point about FF12 is that a lot of characters used more formal and classical english. A VO cast similar to the one used in that game would possibly hew more closely to the intent of this game.
Having said all that I don't know if they have toned down these influences post vs.13.
It's kind of hard to imagine what the VO is actually like from a trailer of just four characters spouting crappy one-liners as Square tends to enjoy doing. Though those who swear by subtitles clearly have their minds made up and any English VO will sound terrible regardless.
It sounds fine, it's just a crappy trailer to show off VO.
Its not the worst Final Fantasy voice acting, but it doesn't sound fantastic either. Still, hard to judge from that trailer.
that fake english accent lmao
sound like a gang of scooby-doo like characters going on a mission, also one of them is a pro wrestler.
Interest in the game increased.
Ughhhhhhhhh. Gross. Anime has spoiled me and now all English voiceovers suuuuuuck. They always sound the same. Please have Japanese voices and English subtitles. It's all I ask.
The only one that bothered me was the fake british. I understand trying to translate character types through voices, but uhhhh....
Posh is not what I'm getting.
Woah! A car?! Is this really Final Fan - ah, a Japanese pretty boy, whew. I was scared there for a second.
Also, the English voices sounds fine to me, I don't really have many complaints.

Is this a joke?
I shall be playing this in Japanese with English subtitles.
@random45: For dubbing the appeal of a particular voice varies from person to person. Beyond that, a common complaint that can be leveled at English dubbing of most Anime is that it is utterly stilted and bottom of the barrel.
Generally I'd say most game VO has completely blasted past Anime VO in terms of quality regardless of the voice or the writing. This game appears to exhibit the qualities of anime voicework which it shouldn't given its budget.
Hm, the Japanese voices were certainly better, all the characters are super established archetypes though so that's not really a surprise. I'd like to play this in Japanese but I've tried playing other games with that option (Xenoblade Chronicles, Resonance of Fate) and they never add subtitles for all the small talk/ battle chatter that's in the game. Without understanding all the environmental stuff it feels like I'm going to miss out regardless.
The obvious solution is to start actually studying Japanese, hrm.
Hard to tell from such a small sample, but it has that anime quality where every voice sounds affected, like everyone's trying to hit the register of their assigned archetype rather than sound naturalistic. It doesn't seem too bad though, I could see myself listening to those voices if what they're saying is decent.
More importantly, the existence of an English voice track is yet more evidence that this game actually exists and will someday soon be released.
@random45: No, and I'm not alone in thinking this. Those voices are atrocious, especially the big dude. Go watch a lot of dubbed anime and you'll notice the similarities in the characters voices.
