Firefly Online is a strategy RPG based on Firefly, the Sci-Fi show created by Joss Whedon for one season on FOX. Just like the TV show, the game will follow the player's crew as they seek out adventure across the universe. Players will be able to create and design their ship and choose their crew members.
The game will have social features and cross-platform play. It's being created in the Unity engine and has full 3D player models, ships, and environments.
Voice Actors
According to various reports, all the main cast from the TV show will be reprising their roles in this game.
On 23rd February 2015, the developers of Firefly Online announced via twitter that Wil Wheaton will be voicing the player's character.
Cancellation
Originally slated with a release date of "Spring 2015," Firefly Online is likely cancelled. In an interview in 2016, John O'Neill, the CEO of the developer, Spark Plug Games, LCC, stated the project encounter struggles with publisher requirements demanding the game increase in size and include more voice talent from the original cast. The last update about the status of the game was on Firefly Online's Facebook page dating back to March 2016 wherein Spark Plug stated:
"We're still here. We're still flyin'. Game is still in development. Stay tuned."
