So sometime ago on the Bombcast a supposed listener wrote in about working in South Africa on a lion reserver where a lioness had just given birth to two new cubs. He went on to say that his names for the cubs were picked... Gerstmann and Davis. Why am I bringing this up, well today I was listening to the new IGN Gamescoop podcast (episode 220) when Daemon Hatfield (host and reviewer for IGN) read the EXACT same email this time though the lion cubs were being named Daemon and MIller. This email takes place at 43:55 min into the podcast. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but can a more talented user possibly grab the two clips of the emails and post them to help expose this!!
Ok soooo guys remember that bombcast email about the lion cubs...
I'm actually kind of happy to hear that it is fake. It's much more comforting than the thought that someone would actually name two lion cubs Gerstmann and Davis.
...not that they aren't perfectly cromulent lion cub names.
Man, this is why we need The Real Messageboard and Real Email (Reamail), moderated by Dave. This fraud would've been impossible!
@plague102: Man I was listening to that today and I thought maybe I was having a case of the deja vu's or something because I could of swore I heard that before somewhere.Same here.

The problem is, what if the lion cubs weren't cromulent?!
Serial Emailer X!?!It could be a copycat
killerwriter, but it's more fun to think that someone ever came up with this weird way to troll in the first place.

Isn't it some zoo? couldn't someone just go there and check it out?
I think it was in South Africa.

This could easily just be a coincidence. You guys are so cynical.
my thoughts.
I'm sure someone on this site is in South Africa...right?
I don't think it is worth that much to get 'to the bottom of'

what your saying now, dany, sounds very suspicious.
Haha. I just sent an email to the Bombcast about this. Here it is:

Subject: The Lions Cub That Were Named After Jeff and Ryan May Be Bogus!
Hey Bomberinos,
On the August 30th episode of the Bombcast, a listener wrote in saying that he worked at a wildlife refuge in Africa where two newborn lions cubs had been named Davis and Gerstmann. The email starts at about the 124 minute mark.
The listener said that, when cubs are born, everyone at the refuge submits potential names and then votes on them. He submitted Davis and Gerstmann and was surprised and overjoyed when his submission was chosen. It was a really cool story.
On Episode 220 of the IGN podcast "Game Scoop!" (posted Friday, October 7), a listener wrote in with a virtually identical story in which the cubs were instead named Daemon and Miller after the "Game Scoop!" hosts. The reading of the email starts at 42 minutes, 30 seconds, and the story about the cubs starts at the 44 minute mark.
In both stories:
-- the listener's name was J.D.
-- the listener is a graduate student in zoology at Miami University
-- the procedure for choosing the names is the same
-- a hand is visible in the picture of the cubs
-- the hand is rubbing one of the cubs
-- the listener says which cub has which name
-- the name of the wildlife refuge is the same (Drakenstein Lion Park)
-- the refuge is in South Africa
-- exactly two cubs are born (65% of lion litters have size not equal to 2)
-- the email is long (Ryan summarized it on the Bombcast, but stated that it was long)
I went to the Drakenstein Lion Park website. It has a page (Our Lions) listing the lions at the park. None are named Davis, Gerstmann, Daemon, or Miller. By the way, people can apparently donate to adopt lions, and there is an online gift store.
I don't want to call the listener a liar. Maybe the IGN cubs are not the Giantbomb cubs. Maybe the park website has not been updated recently. But the evidence is the evidence.
I suspect that the email is a scam aimed at attracting donations or that J.D. wanted to be mentioned by another gaming podcast.
The whole thing is ironic because Jeff even jokes that the email is a "Nigerian prince" scam sent out to thousands of people.
PS. You guys rock!
-----------------------------
EDIT: I checked the website for the zoology department at Miami University and there doesn't seem to be any graduate student there named J.D.
The ULTIMATE troll at work? What if the first email (To the GB crew) was in fact genuine and a beautiful story of a mans struggle to name his hand raised lion cubs.
Then gods gift to Trolls comes along and copies the email word for word and sends it into GameScoop because he thinks Daemon Hatfield is a douche (heh hem). Then he gets off to this forum because the has a trolling fetish.
Sherlocked Holmes that shit.

I guess you could say someone was caught lion.

A hungry lioness sees two men in front of her. One is typing away on his typewriter and the other is reading a magazine. The lioness bolts for the one reading and eats him immediately and walks away. Even those on top of the food chain know that readers digest and writers cramp.
