I'm sorry that I've not been able to find a more specific place to ask this question than "general discussion."

I have a very low expectation that there's any way anyone could possibly answer this question, but for my whole adult life I have had a very distinct and specific sound clip from a game lodged in my head and I thought if anyone on the internet might be able to help, it would be the good people at Giant Bomb.

I'm pretty sure it's an Atari ST game, and a strategy game, where there are specific other kings/leaders/something like that that you can form alliances with. When they accept, or turn down, your offers, they have a little bit of sampled speech which they play. And one of those bits of sampled speech is (I think) a woman (although it might just be a slightly effete man) saying "No, I don't think so," with the emphasis on the "think".

Any suggestions? (apart from 'dude, forget about it and carry on with your life', because just to reassure you, that's the default position).

Six years later I have worked out that the answer was 'Mega-lo-Mania.' Very happy right now.

@peacefulpaul108: I'm excited about your excitement.

This approached Doom thread levels of dedication.

Have you been researching solidly for the last 6 years or did you just randomly come across the game again?

Man, I wish I had seen this six years ago, because I would have guessed Mega-lo-mania from your description.

@burt: I was looking for another ST game I couldn't remember, and stumbled across this one, and as soon as I saw the name I knew it was the one. I googled the game name and the voice sample quote and was proved correct. It produced a very pure rush of endorphins.

I have done some other things in the intervening six years but this never left for good...

Friend, I don't know you, but I now have a very clear and distinct vision of what your life is like. It's probably wildly inaccurate, but it's a beautiful image and I thank you for it.

I can't imagine what a crazy moment that must've been after 6+ years of wondering.

@psygnosis911: Ha, you could have saved me a lot of pain, but then on the flip side I wouldn't have had that moment yesterday!

I love these sorts of threads, especially when they end well like the already mentioned Doom one.

This reminds me of the roughly 20+ years I was searching for a specific Atari 2600 game. All I could remember about it was that it had a kangaroo on the front. The name of the game ended up being.... Kangaroo.

It just goes to show you, no matter how lofty your goals are, if you stick with it, you can accomplish anything.

@thenewgameplusdotcom: There was such a high percentage chance of that being the case given 2600 naming conventions, too.

@nightriff: Ironically looking up ST games heavily ate into my javelin practice time, and it was that which kept me out of the Olympics :(
