What a negatively worded post =/
I generally dislike the anime style - mainly because the visual style seems like a celebration of poor anatomy/poor animation. Regardless, there are some great JRPGs out there - and there are several that don't feature an anime art style (depending on your definition of JRPG).

Despite what you may think about those characters in JRPGs, the games themselves have paved the way for the genre to become its own monster with fleshed out stories and mechanics. Do you think that games like Mass Effect and Dragon's Age would sell if Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy bombed? They had to get the inspiration for the main mechanic from somewhere. FF7 showed a lot of what the PS1 could do for its time, and I think FFX-2 is one of the most mechanically sound JRPGs around. All of them have a good thing in common: they present a very sound challenge to the player for a while, and a good JRPG can be a tremendous time sink. Plus, Japanese culture might not consider the characters emo.
Short answer? Nope!
Well, seems @professoress spoke the truth in your other thread. Making (negative) threads and then insulting people's opinions. I'm sure you have a good future ahead of yourself!

Man, I love JRPGs.
This reminds me that I bought Bravely Default months ago, and now that I beat Virtue's Last Reward, I really ought to play it.
Just a few months ago, I tried playing Final Fantasy XII again. After about 15 hours I totally burned out. I just don't like the gameplay all that much. And it seems most JRPGs have a very similar "gameplayloop" and turn based combat. And most the stories and ESPECIALLY characters are fuckin' terrible.
I started despising JRPGs for the same reason I despise Nintendo... Repetition of same concepts and gameplays and IPs and stories over and over and over again till the end of time.
But, for some reason, I want to try Valkyria Chronicles. The setting and fighting system looks different enough but I'm affraid I'll get burned again...
Hey, Stalker is preeeettyy badass, so he might have a point.
One might even say that Stalker is badass than childish kingdom hearts.
Seriously though, Stalker is pretty rad.

animu avatar, is not that game where we play as fairies??
Yeah, you're exactly right!
You're really knowledgeable about this stuff, I'm pretty impressed.
I enjoy the gameplay loop of a JRPG on occasion. If I play one per year, I've satisfied my JRPG itch. I usually don't care for the story or many of the characters, but I could say that about most games of any genre.
No.
I've played significantly fewer this gen though, partly because fewer are being made for devices I own.
I know he's trolling, but he keeps using the word "childish" in a derogatory way while using a Team Fortress 2 avatar, a game with a pretty whimsical cartoon style. Granted, it's gory, and not actually for children, but it's not trying to deal with themes like "organized religion" and "genocide" and, you know, heavy stuff that Final Fantasy tries to tackle.
@believer258: I hope you realize constructing an ad hominem from a thumbnail pic puts you about half an inch below him on the troll scale :)
